Proverbs 14

Proverbs 14 – As part of the 31 Day Proverbs Challenge, I am doing one chapter per day for 31 days since there are 31 chapters also in the Book of Proverbs. This is day 14 of 31, therefore I am focusing on Proverbs 14.

Proverbs 14

Solomon is telling his son in the start of this Proverb to find a woman who will build a good household, not one that will tear it apart. He also tells his son the importance of fear of God. Saying if you walk right with God that shows you fear him.

Proverbs 14:1 - The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

He also talks again about the importance of watching what you say.

Also talks about lying, that if you are faithful you will tell the truth , but if you are not, you won’t.

Knowledge is also talked about. It also says to depart from a foolish person. The foolish person will surely fall and will lead you astray. Fools will also mock sin, make fun of sin, as if it was nothing.

It talks about the heart too. It knows about our own sadness, bitterness.

Solomon also shares with his son no matter the type of house you dwell in if its wicked it will be overthrown, sin will stay there and if you pitch it upright it will do well.

He also shares that mans ways may seem right and just, but it is not always the path to go. Seek Gods will not your own. Your own ways will cause you to backslide or go away from God. Mans way may seem fair but truly it isn’t because God knows best and His way is always the way.

He also shares importance of not believing every word from people, consider what their words say. Does it go against Gods will? It it spoken out to of rage?

He also shares in this Proverb about good and evil.

Solomon says to watch who your friends are and why they ate your friends. It says the rich has many friends meaning they are using him for his riches. While the poor doesn’t, because he doesn’t have riches. He also says we must love our neighbors even if they are poor. Think of it this way, if you had money, you will notice you have people around you. But, once you are poor and need money, those same people will no longer be available.

He tells his son to watch out for evil it will lead you astray. Evil is what goes against God. This evil is sin and sin separates us from God.

He also tells his son to work for what you have and if you don’t you will lead to poverty.

The fear of God brings strong confidence, one that will make you bold for God. It is also a tree of life, an eternal life, one that produces fruit.

Turning away from God will lead to death. Turning away from God is rebelling. Usually that means that you are living in open sin.

Solomon tells his son to be slow to anger. Slow to anger shows great understanding. We must have a sound heart or a pure truthful heart. If you are quick to anger, that’s like having a short fuse. You usually don’t think and over react. You jump into rectifying that anger.

Again he talks about the importance of helping the poor. Helping the poor is something that we should be doing. It is a way to show the love of Christ to others.

If you get into evil you will be known for that evil. You are known for what you are surrounded by. You know people won’t remember the good you do, they will remember you for the evil, bad or wrong things you do.

Share what you got out of reading Proverbs 14? What verse stood out to you and why?
