The Body of Christ

The Body of Christ was my 13th Talk on my Walk to Emmaus. This Talk was given by Steve Haas.

We are a new Creation

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

In Christ we are a new creation. Our actions and life will show that we are of Christ. The Lost should say, I wonder what happened to them, they have totally changed. A good way to know if you are truly saved or not.

All one in Christ

27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:27-28)

When we get baptized we get clothed with Christ meaning that we are one with Christ.

Koinonia (coin-no-nea) – Greek word – means communion by intimate participation.

  • Caring, Grace-filled fellowship of the Holy Spirit
  • Christian Community
  • Family of God being identified among us.
  • Teamwork (no competition)

The Goal of Emmaus is to reach and build leaders.

Families key ingredient is the church. Heart of the church is a covenant. A covenant is a serious agreement. An agreement means being harmonized. A commitment is a promise. A promise is an agreement to or not to do something (or a cause for hope).

Homes primary influence is Jesus Christ.

As Christians we are “Easter People.” Meaning we celebrate a risen Savior/Lord.

Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called ; (Ephesians 4:1-4)

12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12-13)

Every Christian is a vital part of the body of Jesus Christ.

We all come from God

For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. (1 Corinthians 11:12)

 The Same Spirit

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. (1 Corinthians 12:11)

Confusing gifts

Too often we confuse our Spiritual gifts with talents. A talent becomes a Spiritual gift when we use the talent to benefit Jesus Christ. If we use it for our benefit and gain, it is just merely a talent. We always need to be open to new ideas and comments.

Make disciples

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:19)

We are to spread the Word of God. Tell everyone that God allowed His only begotten Son to die on the Cross for our Sins. To tell others Jesus died for our sins, arose from the dead and has resurrected from the dead.

Preach to others so they can hear

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (Romans 10:14)

More Greek Words …

Kerygma (ker-ig-ma) This is a Greek word for preaching, proclaiming the Good News.

DiaKonia (di-ak-o-nea) This is a Greek word for serving, worshiping

Go and Share

We are to share the Word! Share God’s love with the World. Be Christlike. We are to offer hospitality to the lease. (Be a servant). Someone can always hunger for the soul. Be open. Be honest.

 A letter from Christ

You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Such confidence we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant —not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. (2 Corinthians 3:2-6)

We are all important to the body of Christ. We all share a plan and seek support from others to help succeed in this plan. Christ told us to give to one another. We are to give to the less fortunate. Give to those who don’t have.

The church

The Church is not a building! It is its people. I hope and pray that Christ will be manifested in our Churches today. The structure is the temple, but the people are the church. We are to look at ourselves as a member of the Body of Jesus Christ, as the Church. The Church is the bridegroom of Jesus.
