Prison-Shaking Savior

Prison-Shaking Savior – God has a way to shake things up to get our attention or the attention of those around us. Zach Williams said it great in his song, Chain Breaker.

Prison-Shaking Savior

Prison-Shaking Savior

I am revisiting this blog post and adding to it.

Have you ever felt trapped, like you were behind bars, unable to break free from the chains of your circumstances? Perhaps you’ve faced challenges that seemed insurmountable, or maybe you’ve felt weighed down by guilt or shame. In moments like these, it can be difficult to imagine a way out.

But what if I told you that even in the darkest of times, there’s hope? What if I told you that praise can be a powerful tool to break down the walls that hold us captive?

In Acts 16, we find Paul and Silas imprisoned for their faith. Their situation seemed hopeless, but they refused to let their circumstances define them. Instead, they turned to praise. They sang hymns to God, their voices echoing through the prison.

Not only is the prison-shaking experience a wake up call for us or those around us. Plus the shaking will help free us. Paul and Silas not only experienced a prison-shaking, but also a chain breaking experience too.

Miraculously, their praise shook the very foundations of the prison, causing the doors to fly open and the chains of the prisoners to fall off. Their seemingly impossible situation was transformed by the power of their praise.

This story reminds me of two powerful songs: “Why I Praise” by Brandon Lake and “Chain Breaker” by Zach Williams. Both songs celebrate the transformative power of praise and the freedom that can be found in God’s presence.

Paul & Silas Prison-Shaking Expereince

26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.Acts 16:26 New King James Version (NKJV)

Just like the chains being broken frees us, so does the prison-shaking experience. If you remember the full story about Paul and Silas in prison you will remember they were worshiping God when the earthquake happened. That earthquake shook the prison Paul and Silas was in. It shook so hard it tore apart the prison and even loosed the chains that bound the prisoners.

The jailer was about to kill himself. The jailer knew what would happen to him if the Roman government found out the prisoners escaped on his watch. But Paul yelled out to the jailer do no harm to himself that everyone was accounted for. This prison-shaking experience led to freedom for the jailer and his family. The jailer got saved and his whole family too.

What a witness!

What a witness that despite the prison walls being gone and the prisoners would run for “Freedom”. The prisoners could have ran away. But no, they stayed put. Right there among the rubble of the jail. They stayed put and was still because they knew God would work and bring true freedom. We are only free with Christ. John 8:32-26.

When you feel like you are being shaking, remember God works in that ordeal. He will use it to get our attention and the attention of others. That experience will lead to freedom for us or others around us. When you feel shaking … Be Still and Know He is God. (Psalm 46:10)

If you need freedom or saving
He’s a prison-shaking Savior
Zach Williams – Chain Breaker

That is part of the lyrics to Chain Braker. I have published the music and lyric video and full lyrics to Chain Breaker.

“Why I Praise” captures the essence of a life surrendered to God, a life filled with gratitude and worship. Lake sings, “I wanna sing like Silas tearing down the prison walls.” This line evokes the image of Paul and Silas’ powerful praise, a testament to the incredible impact that worship can have.

“Chain Breaker” is a song about the liberating power of Jesus. Williams sings, “If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior.” This song reminds us that no matter how trapped we may feel, Jesus can break the chains that bind us.

So, the next time you find yourself facing challenges, remember the story of Paul and Silas. Remember the power of praise. And let the words of songs like “Why I Praise” and “Chain Breaker” inspire you to lift your voice in worship, even in the darkest of times. For in the midst of our struggles, praise can be a prison-shaking force, a catalyst for freedom and transformation.
