National Friendship Day. A Day to celebration your friendship with others. Maybe a great day to make new friends and be friendly to other. Maybe a great day to witness to your lost friends. The United States celebrates on the 1st Sunday in August. #FriendshipDay #NationalFriendshipDay

National Friendship Day
The first Friendship Day, celebrated in Paraguay in 1958.
In 2017 and 2023, it was on my birthday, August 6.
The United Nations declared National Friendship Day on July 30, however most countries celebrate it the first Sunday in August. In Orberlin, OH they celebrate it on April 8.
It wasn’t until 1940 when greeting cards for Friendship Day came to America. It was in 1935 when it first started in America, but there are accounts of it being celebrated back in 1919.
[pullquote]“A friend is someone who is there for you when he’d rather be anywhere else.” by Len Wein[/pullquote]
The Truest friend
The truest friend we can ever have is having a personal relationship with Jesus. He is always there for us. He will never leave us. Earthly friends can come and go and back again. But Jesus will never leave us. He is always there to help us. We just got to call on Him and not do it our own self.
I like this graphic from 123 Greetings, Friend Ship Day with a ship in it. It has a quote on it say, “Some times are rough, some days are smooth … But the journey of life is easier with a friend like you!”
Maybe on Friendship Day you can take the time to share some Bible Stories of the Sea too. Get it Friend “Ship” Day. Sorry bad fun, but hey might make an interesting topic. Friend “Ship” Day goes with the graphic I found for this blog entry.
True Friend
I do believe a true friend will bring you closer to God, not away from God. So if your friend brings you closer to God, you have a true friend. If the tear you apart or bring you away from God, you don’t have a true friend in my opinion.
Here is a “Friend” type Bible verse found in Proverbs 18:24, shown in the pull quote.
A man of too many friends comes to ruin,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
According to the National Friendship Day declaration, we are invited to “observe this day in an appropriate manner, in accordance with the culture and other appropriate circumstances or customs of their local, national and regional communities, including through education and public awareness-raising activities”.
