Manifest The new TV Show has Bible References?

The new TV show Manifest, has Bible references through the tv show. You may not know that it is a Bible verse in the way they are used. However one of them is, Romans 8:28 (And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.) I have also seen a lot of 828 things too. Of course, they were on Flight 828.

The ones on the flight with special abilities are called “The Chosen Ones”. They are said to have come back to life, five and half years later. To them it was like the never missed a beat. But to those left behind, they thought they were dead. All of the passengers seem to have some kind of calling.

Romans 8:28 is not the only Bible verse mentioned!

Watch the pilot episode

If I am not mistaken there has been a few others, but the address wasn’t given and if you are not that familiar you may not pick it up.

Manifest airs on NBC on Monday nights at 10 PM Eastern, 9 PM Central. You can watch it on Hulu the next day.

So far at the time of this blog post there has been 4 episodes aired. Season 1, Episode 1-4. So far i have enjoyed this new TV show. Yes there are some things that young children can’t handle and yes this is not a Biblical TV show, but it does have Bible verses quoted in it and other things too.  So far, I have enjoyed watching this new TV show.  What happened to these folks is nothing Biblical I will say that!

They do believe a higher power caused the plane to do what it did and give powers to some of the passengers aboard Flight 828.

Meaning of Manifest

The dictionary says that manifest means clear or obvious to the eye or mind. However as a noun, it means passenger.

About the Show

This TV series was written by Jeff Rake.

When Montego Air Flight 828 landed safely after a turbulent but routine flight, the crew and passengers were relieved. Yet in the span of those few hours, the world had aged five years and their friends, families and colleagues, after mourning their loss, had given up hope and moved on. Now, faced with the impossible, they’re all given a second chance. But as their new realities become clear, a deeper mystery unfolds and some of the returned passengers soon realize they may be meant for something greater than they ever thought possible. From Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jeff Rake and Jackie Levine comes an emotionally rich, unexpected journey into a world grounded in hope, heart and destiny

NBC

We just have to wait and watch the whole series to see what is going on. Plus, who knows there might be a Season 2.

If you notice any Bible verses other than Romans 8:28, please feel free to share in the comments below!

I may go back on Hulu and rewatch the episodes and share some that I spot.

Update 1/30/19: I got this comment and thought I would add it to the blog post. Very interesting about a few verses before the pilot Bible Verse of Romans 8:28.

Yes, I searched this morning for Romans 8:28 but noticed that Romans 8:19 actually says: “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”..which leads to the name of the show, “Manafest”. ALL of Romans 8 is very helpful to everyone today. I think this show is helpful..if people “see” it. I think many people have regrets about things they feel they did wrong..but if you COULD change something…what else would it change, that you WOULDN’T want changed? Like having your children, wife, and etc……And it helps to know that you are where you are, because of things you needed to learn..and God held your hand all the way and helped you through it all! Maybe people wouldn’t be so sad and unhappy with their lives…if they just realized that. Yes, I am saved and have been baptized and I thank God for both!

Update 2/7/19: I noticed no Bible verses were used for a while, but some Christian symbols have been used, like the Peacock. On the show, there was a vision of a wolf and Ben Stone quoted Matthew 7:15 … The Bible verse about a wolf in sheep clothing. There was also a scene of a false church starting from one of the passengers.

    1. Oh wow! Thanks for sharing. Revealing or Manifestation. If we were able to make the change and not do it, who’s to say we won’t do it later on in life instead. Awesome and thank you for the comment. I have been enjoying watching the show. The latest episode talked about the peacock and mythology, Juno was an ancient Roman goddess. I noticed that part. I haven’t seen as much Bible references, as the first started. Have a great day and make sure you subscribe so you won’t miss any more blog post.

    2. I’ve been watching on Netflix and now have almost completely watch all three episodes. It is cleverly done ..though far fetched at times …and has plenty of believable human interactions ….BUT … As a Christian, I can say unequivocally that the subtle message in this series is completely antithetical to what the Bible teaches in the New Testament. First, this Netflix creation: Presents God as this “heartless trickster” who tortures people (sometimes physically) with vague references/visions/voices to “warn/save” some person or group of impending doom. The doomsday scenarios do NOT implore anyone who are getting the so-called “callings” …to ever contemplate calling on God himself …nor through the redemptive works of Jesus Christ. It validities/teaches every other “salvation” method created by mankind from the beginning of time …that being we reach salvation/redemption by our own works/deeds! Christianity is completely the opposite of this. It teaches us that there is ONLY ONE road/passage for our Salvation …a belief and acceptance of God’s gift to mankind thru the “sacrifice” of his only begotten son, Jesus Christ! The Bible teaches the ONLY”calling” is a call to believe on Christ individually for own personal salvation/redemption! I could go on and give multiple examples but the bottom line is that it teaches a “false doctrine” and uses the very same tactics that Satan used in the Garden of Gethsemane to tempt Christ himself! The trick/deception is to use Biblical scripture itself …out of context …to promote a lie and deceive. Having said all this …I have to admit the series has been addictive to watch. But as a Christian, we need to be wary of false doctrines and test anything like this thru God’s word and the guidance of his Holy Spirit. If you can do that and see it as pure fiction and a sort of Sci-Fi movie …which is what I was expecting early on …then I guess it’s dafe to watch. It also mixes in some positive values about loyalty and family …BUT …again remember the sinister tactics that Satan uses to pervert and deceive.

  2. I have noticed it seems to also cover other my mythology especially Egyptian mythology and still some faith-based elements but I still don’t think the callings are Biblical despite they try to or might make it look like it. But they are putting faith things out there.
