Drive-In Concerts – with the social distancing and other orders due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic Christian Music Artist had to get creative on how they are to perform. Introducing the Drive-In Theater Tour! #DriveInTour #DriveInConcerts #Newsboys #TobyMac
Drive-In Concerts
Kind of like the lines of Drive-In Church and Drive-In Graduation. Some of these are done virtual and also in person.
Many of them did videos on social media, but now that the public is slowly opening up, with distancing and limits of numbers, the Christian Musicians and Christian Bands are doing what is called Drive-In Concerts. Some might call it Virtual Concerts, because it will also be streamed on big screen at a Drive-In Movie Theater.
That is exactly what Newsboys and TobyMac are doing.
On March 12, Awakening Events paused five national concert tours. For a national tour producer, COVID-19 presented very unique challenges. The idea for outdoor live concerts came about during discussions with the NEWSBOYS team. The concept, a first-of-its-kind for Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) will showcase the best in CCM starting with tours featuring NEWSBOYS United, and TobyMac.
TobyMac’s “Drive-In” leg kicks off June 22 at the Highway 21 Drive-In in Beaufort, South Carolina. Newsboys begin touring June 18 at Kenda Drive-In Theater in Marshall, Arkansas.
“Everyone was looking for answers on how we could play live again. An email from the NEWSBOYS management team, saying Dan, look at this list of Drive-Ins, was the spark that created the fire to do what we do, again. Then immediately came discussions with our partners. Through those discussions, we identified an even bigger opportunity for the CCM industry to serve America during this time.”
Dan Fife, President of Awakening Events
Each one having their own tour. The closest that the Newsboys will be to me is in Maryville, TN on July 6 at the Parkway Drive-In. (An Hour Drive). While the closest TobyMac will be June 25 in Watertown, TN at the Stardust Drive-In Theatre. (Less than 3 Hours).
“Awakening Events has produced concerts nationwide for years, their heart to minister while providing quality entertainment made them the perfect partner for this concept, the Drive-in Theater concept allows fans to gather together again safely while taking part in the live concert experiences that both NEWSBOYS and TOBYMAC have been known for providing for years.”

Like with any concert, things can happen including cancellations or reschedules. Including another shut down. So keep that in mind too.
“We are so excited to be able to come and play to fans all across America, COVID-19 has changed all of our lives, but through it, we have learned that love is patient and love is kind. Now we have the opportunity to come together safely and express our love for our Creator who has been with us through these trying times.”
Michael Tait, lead singer of NEWSBOYS United
I also see Drive-In Movie theaters making a come back.
“A few Saturday nights every summer my family and I head to a local drive in movie theater. We always love it, when we started discussing live shows in this quarantine season and the idea of playing drive-ins came up… I said, let’s gooooo! It feels like summer, safe for everybody, and we all get to enjoy live music again. We bout to make some memories.”

This Concert series are part of the AWAKENING EVENTS.
To accommodate social distancing, tickets will be sold by the car, ensuring fans will be able to experience the concerts with those closest to them, while also adhering to safety guidelines.
Tickets start at $75 per car for “side screen” parking. General admission parking costs $100 per car and “Gold Circle” premium parking pass costs $175. A maximum six people per car may enter the drive-in.
Price is not bad, if you have the maximum six people per car. But, this will help the local community, drive-in location and these two Christian Music Artist.
