Buddy Bench- It’s recess and the kids are having fun, running, playing with balls, swinging, etc. However, some of the kids are not enjoying in on the fun. That is where Christian Bucks done something about it. #BuddyBench
Bucks, a 1st grader in 2013, at Roundtown Elementary School, witnessed lonely classmates at his school’s playground. So he introduced the Buddy Bench at his school. The Buddy Bench is modeled after a bench he saw in a German school brochure. His family was going to relocate to Germany and saw those benches in those.
In 2014, his 2nd grade year, they were able to get the bench. The principal even let him pick out the bench.
If you are sitting on the bench …
You are looking for a friend. When someone asks you to play, join them, and always remember to glance over at the school’s Buddy Bench to invite new friends to join in on the fun.
If you are not sitting on the bench …
Ask your classmate on the buddy bench to play, and make a new friend today! Keep growing your circle of friends until everyone has someone to play with. 🙂
Reasons to sit on this special bench
- New to the school.
- Want to make new friends.
- Your friends aren’t at school that day.
- Want to play something different than what your friend is playing.
- Other reasons … (Feel free to share in the comments below!)
The point of this is to make buddies, not bullies.
I think every school, park, playground, etc. should have one of these!
