National Vietnam War Veterans Day

National Vietnam War Veterans Day – This is a US holiday observed annually on March 29. A day to recognize our Vietnam War Veterans.

I first and foremost want to thank all those men and women who served in Vietnam to help protect the freedoms we have. Not to mention, all veterans too from all wars and conflicts, etc.

This holiday is not to be confused with Veterans Day, celebrated November 11th. That day marks the end of the First World War.

This holiday is held March 29 of each year.

In 2012

Did you know? On March 29, 2012, President Barack Obama proclaimed March 29, 2012, as Vietnam Veterans Day. The proclamation called “upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War.”

“The Vietnam War is a story of service members of different backgrounds, colors, and creeds who came together to complete a daunting mission. It is a story of Americans from every corner of our Nation who left the warmth of family to serve the country they loved. It is a story of patriots who braved the line of fire, who cast themselves into harm’s way to save a friend, who fought hour after hour, day after day to preserve the liberties we hold dear. From Ia Drang to Hue, they won every major battle of the war and upheld the highest traditions of our Armed Forces.”

In 2017

In 2017, President Donald Trump signed it into law. That was because March 29, 1973 our troops were withdrawn from South Vietnam. However, it took that many years from 1973 to 2017, to get a day for these men and women. However, the one Trump did in 2017, made it official.

The Vietnam War was a conflict war between the government of North Vietnam and South Vietnam. There were 58,000 killed or never returned.

Make sure to thank your veterans. I do this all the time when I see a man or woman wearing a Veteran Hat, T-shirt, etc. Or even a military one too.

Maybe go visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.  Check out The Three Soldiers, a bronze statue on the Washington, DC National Mall commemorating the Vietnam War.
