My Porch Light is Green! Green Light A Vet!

As you can see, my porch light is green! I posted a blog post, Greenlight a vet Back November 8, 2015. I wanted to buy a LED green light, which Walmart, who was the sponsor was sold out everywhere of the green LED lights. November 24, 2015, a local Wal-mart to me, finally got some in stock. So I bought one so I could Greenlight a vet.

I guess it helps with Christmas too being a green light.

I used the indoor/outdoor TCP, LED A15 Replacement green bulb. According to the package is uses 5W of energy and last 22 years. It works great on my porch too. The package also talks about energy saving of $96. This bulb cost less than $4.

I’ve Greenlight a vet
for 5 years in 2020!

That is with that same bulb I bought in 2015. I do have it on a dark sensor to only come on when it is dark.

Just think if it uses 5W of energy an hour and you usually use a 25W bulb, you are saving 20W per hour. Doesn’t seem like much, but say you run it non-stop for a day, 24 hours. That’s 120W per day using the LED, while the old 25W would use 600W. That led light is saving you over 400W per day.

Do you light up for a veteran using the green?
Have you lit up blue for police officers or autism?
How about pink for breast cancer?
Maybe orange for MS?

Prefer LED

I’d prefer to use LED lights over standard bulbs or incandescent bulbs because they not only last longer but they also use less energy. You can even switch your Christmas lights to LED lights to help save energy too!

I just wished my front door wasn’t to the back of the apartments, you cannot see my front door from the road, but maybe the green ambiance will show from the front? At least my neighbors can see it.

This is great for Veterans Day!

TCP has other colors too

  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Blue
  • Pink

Update: March 8, 2021 the bulb stopped working. This bulb claimed 22 years of life, I only got just over 5 years. Technically speaking, it should have lasted me 17 more years. But, I kind of figured it would last 5-6 years anyways.

The pricing and availability of these type of bulbs do now make it much easier to purchase.

  1. It has almost been one year and I still have this light lit up at night. I have a night sensor that auto turns on at dark. So my porch says lit green for Green Light a Vet for honor for Veterans.
