My wife and I listened to the audiobook version during our commute using the Libby App. She has a copy of this book too.
Being a fan of Jesus is not enough, and that true discipleship requires a complete surrender to Christ and His teachings.
The book is divided into three parts, each of which focuses on a different aspect of being a true follower of Jesus. The first part, titled “D.T.R. (Define the Relationship),” asks readers to examine their relationship with Jesus and determine whether they are truly committed to following Him. Idleman stresses that being a fan of Jesus is not enough; one must be willing to surrender their life completely to Him.
The second part of the book, “The Fine Print,” explores the true cost of following Jesus. Idleman argues that many people are willing to follow Jesus as long as it is convenient or comfortable for them, but are not willing to make the sacrifices that true discipleship requires. He urges readers to consider the sacrifices that they may need to make in order to fully follow Jesus.
The final section of the book, “Gods at War,” discusses the various idols that people may have in their lives that prevent them from fully following Jesus.
