National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day – that beloved sandwich with peanut butter and jelly has its own day. The one they say that the average American eats thousands of them before they graduate high school.

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

I love a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I prefer strawberry jelly as my jelly flavor. Most people call these PB&J Sandwiches. This day is celebrated each year on April 2. The average American will have eaten over 2,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by the time they graduate from high school.

I have even made my own peanut butter, Cajun Peanut Butter using Cajun style Peanuts.

Most of what people report the earliest use of both peanut butter and jelly dates back to 1901 with a reference to Julia Davis Chandler. It wasn’t until the 1920’s the cost of peanut butter went down and the sandwich became popular. Even during the World War II (WWII), both peanut butter and jelly were part of the United States soldiers military ration list. That is according to the Peanut Board.

The J.M. Smucker Co. introduced Goober, in 1968, jarred product which combined peanut butter and jelly.

Anyways, I think it has been a long while since I have ate a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich.

One thing to keep in mind, food allergies are on a rise, and peanuts being one of them.
