1. The Scriptural Foundation

The Bible consistently portrays Jesus as the cornerstone, drawing on Old Testament prophecies that foretold His coming. In Psalm 118:22, we read, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” Jesus fulfills this prophecy in the New Testament, solidifying His role as the central figure of our faith.

2. Cornerstone of Redemption

Jesus serves as the cornerstone of our redemption, bearing the weight of our sins on the cross. Through His sacrifice, we find forgiveness and reconciliation with God, paving the way for eternal life. Ephesians 2:20 reinforces this, describing believers as being “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone.”

3. Unchanging and Reliable

Jesus remains our constant, unchanged and reliable cornerstone. Hebrews 13:8 assures us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” As we navigate life’s challenges, we can anchor ourselves in His unchanging character and promises.

4. The Center of Our Identity

Our identity as Christians is intricately tied to Jesus, the cornerstone of who we are. 1 Peter 2:9 declares, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Our purpose and worth find meaning in Christ.

5. Building Our Lives Upon Him

Just as builders carefully place the cornerstone to ensure the stability of a structure, we are called to build our lives upon Jesus. Matthew 7:24-25 compares those who hear and do the words of Jesus to wise builders who construct their houses on a rock, withstanding the storms of life.

”“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.“

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Conclusion

In every aspect of our Christian journey, Jesus stands as our cornerstone – the sure foundation upon which we build our faith, hope, and purpose. As we delve deeper into the Scriptures and embrace His transformative power, we discover that our lives gain stability and purpose, anchored in the unshakable cornerstone of Christ.

Knowing Christ Today by Dallas Willard — Willard’s work confronts a critical issue in modern Christian thought: the separation of Jesus’ teachings from what is considered genuine knowledge. He argues that this division has led to a catastrophic misunderstanding of what it means to know Christ and live according to His teachings. The book’s aim is to reestablish the core teachings of Christianity—often referred to as “Mere” Christianity—as a substantial and recognized form of knowledge¹[1].
