You cannot find it in Northern States like Michigan. They say we can give you sugar in your iced tea. It’s not the same that way!

You have to add the sugar when it’s hot!

How to make Sweet Tea

1. Brew Tea / Steep Tea

You can use a coffee pot or a tea pot to make it. If yo use a coffee pot and make coffee, sometimes your tea will have a coffee taste too. I recommend you get one that you just make tea in.

You can also boil the water and add tea bags and steep until is is the strength you prefer.

2. Sweet Hot Tea

I add 2 cups of sugar for a gallon of tea. I like mine very sweet. You can sweeten to your taste and/or dietary needs.

Now you need to sweeten the brewed / steeped tea. You must add the sugar or sweetener when the tea is hot. Adding the sugar when it is hot, will dissolve the sugar.

If you add sugar to cold tea, it will crystallize and not be pleasant.

You can also use honey, agave or other sweeteners.

3. Allow to Get Cold

Now that you added the sugar or sweetener when it was hot, now you can allow the sweet tea to get cold. You can add ice and serve or you can allow to get cold in the fridge. (which is what I like to do).

4. Garnish & Enjoy!

Garnishing is optional. I skip garnishing and enjoy! People like to garnish their sweet tea with Lemon, Orange and/or mint. Again this is optional and based on your preferred taste and/or dietary needs.

You can even add berries or other fruit to make a fruity sweet tea. Often you can find flavored syrup that you can use to flavor and sweeten your tea with too.

I just like my sweet tea as is. I do like mine very sweet. Learn more about sweet tea.
