This day is held annually on the first Sunday in October. In 2019, that falls on October 6. Communion is the Lord’s Supper and we are told to do this as often in memory of the sacrifice of Christ.

That means we do it often, not just one time or here and there. But this day was set aside to try to make it where churches everyone will participate world wide.

This day first started in 1933.

In the Baptist faith, the unleavened bread represents the Body of Christ Broken for us. The grape juice, represents the blood shed for us. It is nothing like what the Catholic faith believes. (See Below)

The Lord’s Supper (Communion) is done differently based on your faith. I went to one non-domination they would have you break a piece of the bread off and then you dipped it in the communion cup.

The Baptist we tend to use the square wafer for the bread and a tiny plastic cup of grape juice.

The Catholic they use a round wafer, the priest will place it on your tongue. Then you will take a sip from the communion cup. Then the priest will wipe off the cup. They call this a sacrament, Eucharist.

Also Catholics believe that through the process of transubstantiation the bread and wine before the priest becomes the body and blood of Christ. According to catechism and the liturgy, as soon as the Institution Narrative begins, the Lord is present in the elements of bread and wine.

In some Christians faiths like the Baptist faith, you will hear the terms Open or Closed.

Open: Members and Non-Members of the church can partake, but they must be baptized.

Closed: Is done for only members of the church in good standing.

We cannot take the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner! That is very important to examine yourself before partaking. Your pastor should warn you about this too before you do Communion.

The Lord’s Supper

23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number [d]sleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

33 So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you will not come together for judgment. The remaining matters I will arrange when I come.
