What does a peacock symbolize?

What does a peacock symbolize? Does it have Christian roots or does it have other meanings? In the TV Show, Manifest, it stated it has Christians Roots. So I dig in and find out!

Peacock symbolism: Vision, Royalty, Spirituality, Awakening, Guidance, Protection, & Watchfulness. In Greco-Roman mythology, the Peacock tail has the “eyes” of the stars. In Hinduism, the Peacock is associated with Lakshmi who represents patience, kindness and luck.

Mind, Body & Spirit

The Peacock has also been associated with Juno was an ancient Roman goddess. Below is that fable associated with Juno.

The peacock came to see Juno, because he could not accept with equanimity the fact that the goddess had not given him the song of the nightingale. The peacock complained that the nightingale’s song was wondrously beautiful to every ear, while he was laughed at by everyone as soon as he made the slightest sound. Juno then consoled the peacock and said, ‘You are superior in beauty and superior in size; there is an emerald splendour that shines about your neck, and your tail is a fan filled with jewels and painted feathers.’ The peacock protested, ‘What is the point of this silent beauty, if I am defeated by the sound of my own voice?’ ‘Your lot in life has been assigned by the decision of the Fates,’ said Juno. ‘You have been allotted beauty; the eagle, strength; the nightingale, harmony; the raven has been assigned prophetic signs, while unfavourable omens are assigned to the crow; and so each is content with his own particular gift.’
Do not strive for something that was not given to you, lest your disappointed expectations become mired in discontent.

Fable of Juno and the Peacock (One English Translations)

According to Kuan Yin this bird shows the deity that is supposedly the creator of the beautiful colors of the Peacock’s signature tail feathers.

Some believe the peacock is the first phoenix bird.

In Christianity

In Christianity, this symbol is known as the all-seeing Church. It also represents …

  • Resurrection
  • Renewal
  • Immortality

Of course, we know that this beautiful bird is just that, a beautiful creation of God. The word Peacock is used in the Bible,  (1 Kings 10:22, repeated in 2 Chron 9:21). Which is believed to be a baboon or ape, not the bird. See H8500. With that said, I don’t think there is anything Christian symbolism in this beautiful bird.

I am not sure why they brought this bird up, but maybe because the passengers of Flight 828, seem to have resurrected, because they were missing for 5 1/2 years and came back. The people that were left behind, believed they were dead and they came back to life in that TV show.
