This blog post is about my experience riding a Polar Express train ride. I have rode other train rides, but not a Polar Express or Christmas themed train ride. This train ride is based on the movie staring Tom Hanks.

We drove up to Stearns, Kentucky, around a two and half hour drive from where I live. We didn’t see too many shops open when we arrived near by.

A lot of families came dressed similar in their pajamas, if you think about it, the kids riding the train to the North Poke decided to get on and was in their pjs.

When it was about time to board the train to the North Pole, they had a few pre skit shows. One where a few girls sang a song, plus the hobo on the train gave a speech. It did seem to take a while to do this and board.

Be sure to be toward the back and the railing so you can see the skits. If you are against the building, it will be hard to see due to the crowd.

After that they had blowing snow. My wife enjoyed seeing the snow coming down.

As I mentioned it took a long time to board with pre skits they do. I could even hear kids saying when can we get on the train. I guess I also felt like those kids, I wanted on the train!

We got our seats and sat down. After they finished boarding the train, we began heading to the North Pole. To me it seemed we were traveling very slow.

Did you know the Polar Express Train ride in Stearns is the only one that actually goes through tunnel. They have their tunnel well lit too.

My wife and I got the coach tickets. We still got a hot coca and cookie. Granted my cup of hot coca was only half full.

Yes, the conductor comes and punches holes in your big ticket over you like in the movie. However, they do not punch a word like in the movie, just a straight line.

Once we got to the North Pole, Santa boarded and then we headed back to the station. We headed back on reverse. Not able to switch the chairs around that was odd.

We were in Car 2, Car 1 was behind us, Santa boarded as I mentioned and visited everyone in Car 1 and then moved onto Car 2. Santa handed all of us a silver bell. I can hear the bell! Don’t rattle it too close to your ear like in the movie, it is loud.

Being handed the silver bell from Santa was my favorite part.

On the way back to the station, all you could hear was the bells ringing.

During the train ride the workers in our car would dance and walk back and forth in the car, even showing a giant Polar Express book.

This is a great experience not only for us adults, but the kids and whole family. It might be a once a d done, then again it could turn into a seasonal family tradition.
