Spring Ahead! Daylight Saving Time Begins

Spring Ahead! Daylight Saving Time Begins – It’s that time again! Time to SPRING AHEAD! or Spring Forward however you want to look at it. Basically for most of us we set our clocks ahead an hour before we go to bed. It means it is Day Lights Saving Time Begins! Note Saving with no “s” not Savings.

Spring Ahead! Daylight Saving Time Begins

Spring Ahead! Day Light Saving Time Begins

That means we lose one hour. If you don’t set your clocks ahead one hour you will be late for church. You will be arriving as everyone else is leaving. We set our times ahead at 2:00 a.m. making it 3:00 a.m. That means one less hour of sleep so you may want to go to bed earlier.

Change Your Clocks,
Change Your Batteries

We Spring Ahead in Spring … Before you go to bed on Saturday, March 9, 2024, be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour. If you forget, you may just be late for church in the morning, because official time change is at 2 am on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

The practice of changing clocks twice a year, also known as Daylight Saving Time (DST), is mainly done to make better use of daylight during the warmer months of the year. By advancing the clock by one hour in the spring, we can move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, which is when most people are awake and active. This can help reduce electricity usage for lighting and heating in the evenings, and can also be beneficial for outdoor activities and businesses such as restaurants and retail shops.

The idea of DST was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, but it wasn’t widely adopted until the 20th century. Today, many countries around the world observe DST in some form or another, although the exact dates and rules can vary between different regions and jurisdictions.

While you are up changing the time on the clocks; it is still a good idea to also change your batteries in all your safety equipment such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, weather radios, flashlights, etc.

I know that most clocks now are atomic or self adjusting to time changes, but we still should at least set this day aside for changing our batteries in our life saving devices.

We fall back in the fallSunday, November 3, 2024 at 2 a.m. when Daylight Saving Time Ends.

Also check out the Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery about changing your batteries when you change your time on your clocks.

Future spring ahead dates

  1. March 9, 2025
  2. March 8, 2026
  3. March 14, 2027

Note that these dates are subject to change by legislation, so it’s always a good idea to double-check closer to the actual date.

Places don’t observe Daylight Saving Time (DST)

Most areas of the United States do observe daylight saving time Below is a list of those that don’t. Some states are now starting to end this practice.

  • Arizona (except for the Navajo, who do observe daylight saving time on tribal lands)
  • Hawaii
  • American Samoa
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Virgin Islands
  • List hasn’t been updated lately, due to many stats choosing to do away with it or start doing it.

There has been some talk about some other states to join not observing DST. Florida is one of them, along with Tennessee. Not to mention, there is another bill out to do away with this nationwide.

Time Change and Your Health

How switching the clocks can affect your health – Even though the energy savings associated with DST can be significant, some suggest those savings come at the expense of human health.
