Sin is also something you don’t do

Sin is also something you don’t do - We often think of sin as something that we done wrong, but it can also be something that we don't do.

People always think of sin something that you do … Sin can also be something you don’t do that you should have done.

Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

James 4:17 NASB

Knows to do the right, in some translations it says the good thing.

BibleRef.com shares this, “This verse adds a layer of duty to our knowledge: failure to act is, in itself, an act. We are not merely meant to avoid evil—believers are morally obligated to do what we know is good.”

So if we know we were to do something good (the right thing) and do not do it, it is sin, just like if we did something wrong. So as we can see, sin is a two-fold. It can be something that we did and shouldn’t have done and it can be something we didn’t do and should have done.

The good thing is, Jesus died for us, to save us from our sinful ways. Because He died to save us, doesn’t give us a license to sin either!

This can also be known as a sin of omission, this occurs if a person fails to do something which that person should have done. A sin of omission, is the opposite of a sin of commission, an actively knowledge of doing wrong. (take action to commit, whether in thought, word, or deed. – Got Questions)

The account of the Good Samaritan is a good example of a sin of omission. Where both the priest and a Levite skipped over the man, knowing they should have helped.

Got Questions has a short good article on Sin of Omission. Check it out!

However, a simple answer to any sin is missing the mark.
