Setting Goals and Solving Problems

I found an old journal entry I had written from a college class I had. This entry is from January 30, 1996. It was titled Setting Goals and Solving Problems. I have some more entries that I plan to share in my blog as well. So please come back or subscribe to my blog to keep updated on these entries.
Here is that journal entry:

Goal setting is important because it will allow you to try something new and gives you something new and gives you an opportunity to get something done in a certain amount of time. First, set a small goal or short-term goal. This goal may later lead to a long-term goal. I personally found out that if you set goals you will do better in life and won’t procrastinate a lot on several assignments and/or projects. If you set goals you will usually try to do anything to accomplish that goal in as little time as possible.

With any goal you set make sure it is measurable, reachable, believable, realistic, flexible and controllable.

I have reached three of my biggest goals. The first one is, I attained the God and Country, “Protestant” Award. This goal took me one year to accomplish. Secondly, I attained the Rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. This goal took me four years of Cub Scouts and eight years of Boy Scouts of American, which equals a total of twelve years of Scouting to accomplish.

My next goal is to graduate with an Associates degree in two years from now. I could list some short term goals, but they will go on forever and a day. I also believe some people set goals everyday, in fact they don’t realize they are setting goals.

Footnotes:

  1. I attained my God and Country Award before I attained the Rank of Eagle. Usually it is more common to attain the Rank of Eagle, then work on the God and Country awards.

  2. I actually graduated with my Associated degree 4 years, 2 years longer than what I predicted back then.

  3. I did edit this journal entry some and removed some text and added some text as well.

  4. This came about from Chapter 2 in my class and it was my 2nd journal entry.
