Sanctifying Grace

Sanctifying Grace is from Talk #12 on my Walk to Emmaus. I took did my Walk to Emmaus in 1998. This Sanctifying Grace talk was given by Tim Stallings.

2 Kings 5:1-27 – Being Cleansed

About these verses: This above scripture talks about how Naaman was cured of his leprosy by cleaning himself in the Jordan for seven times.  Sanctifying grace works very much the same way. When are cleansed from God we are made Holy. Being sanctified sets us apart to be holy.

1 Corinthians 6:11 – Being sanctified

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)

We are to be cleansed by the power of God in the name of Jesus Christ. We are to set examples for others as being Christlike.

John 10:10 – Having Life to the full

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

In this verse it tells us that we will have life and that we will have it more abundantly. The power of the Holy Spirit helps convict us. This conviction helps us to repent of our sins. Jesus Christ forgave us for those sins. We just have to ask for forgiveness. Then we are fully restored.

John 15:4 – God is in us

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (John 15:4)

In order to bare fruit, witness to others, we must have Jesus in our life. We cannot witness to others if we do not have Jesus in our lives. It also tells us apart from God, we cannot do anything. Being sanctified, we are a new creation. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17).

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – Our Bodies are temples

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

We are to respect our bodies. We are an image of God. God made us the way He wants us. We shouldn’t change our bodies because we are not happy with them. God made us the way he made us for a specific reason. Our bodies as the verse 19 stated above said we are a temple of the Holy Spirit. Since we are temples of the Holy Spirit, shouldn’t we respect our body?

1 Corinthians 10:13 – Temptation and a way out

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Temptation is normal. With God’s help we can overcome temptation. God always gives a way out of the tempting situation. We just need to learn to ask God for help to get out of it. Reply on Him and not yourself or man to get you out.

John 14:27 – Do not be troubled or afraid

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid(John 14:27)

We are not to be afraid because God gives us peace unlike the world. Being mature in grace helps us stay connected with God. We want to always be with God and know God is there for us. He is our Father, our Creator. He wants what is best for us. So depend on God and allow Him to show you the way. God accepts us just the way we are. We must be obedient.

John 15:1-17 – Resurrection of Christ & the Dead

About these verses: These scriptures are about the resurrection of Christ and also the resurrection of the dead. You must believe in the gospel of Christ, if you don’t then you are have believed in vain. It assures us that Christ died for our sins, he was buried, he arose on the third day and he also appeared to many that day too. These verses makes it clear that all of these are according to the scriptures. The end of these scriptures also talks about if Christ didn’t arise from the dead then our belief is in vain, but Christ did rise from the dead. (Our Pastor always say this too, if it wasn’t for the birth, the death and the resurrection of Christ, all our belief is done in vain). But, the great thing is Christ did do all of this and He did it to save us and allow us eternal life with Him and our Father in Heaven.

Galatians 5:1-26 – Being fruitful

About these verses: An analogy that was used is if we take away the branches it won’t produce any fruit. If we prune the branches it will produce fruit. We have freedom in Christ. We must have Faith expressed through Love. Life is by the Holy Spirit. Just because we are free, it doesn’t mean we do whatever we want to do. We are not to please the flesh. We are to serve one another with love. We must walk by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is what help guides us and corrects us and keeps us on the correct path. Holy Spirit is what causes us to feel the conviction when we do wrong. What are some acts of the flesh? Verses 19-21 show you a list of them. The Work flesh in Greek is sarx, it refers to the sinful nature of humans. When I go to church, I go to church to praise and worship God. When we are obedient and share Christ to others we can tell that the Holy Spirit takes over.

Matthew 7:19 – Not baring fruit?

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 7:19)

If we are not bearing fruit, then have we truly given our lives to Christ? If we do not bare fruit we are not practicing salvation. If we are not baring fruit, we are not witnessing or spreading the Word of God. You can tell we are not a new creation in Christ. Our lives will show if we bare fruit.

1 John 5:13 – It is written!

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)

These things have been written so we will have eternal life. I don’t know about you, but I want that eternal life in Heaven with our Father, Our Creator, and with the One who died ont he Cross for our sins, our Savior, our Lord, Jesus Christ. If we truly give our heart to Jesus, He will keep on the right path. Remember we are saved by faith, not by our actions, but faith without actions is dead.
