Red Hats for infants at UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN and other area hospitals. When you think of the UT Medical Center, you think of the color orange, since that is the school color, but in the month of February, they give all newborns red hats for American Heart Association. This part of the Little Hats, Big Hearts™.

Red Hats for Little Hats, Big Hearts™

Throughout the month of February all Knoxville hospitals will give these specially knitted hats, that are either knitted or crocheted by volunteers. This movement started in Chicago, IL in 2014 with 300 red hats.Today these red hats are given out in 29 states.

The reason they use February because February is American Heart Association Awareness Month.

These red hats are to help raise awareness of heart disease. More specifically, congenital heart defects, which are now the most common type of birth defect in the United States, said obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Sudha Nair, chair of the Obstetrics Collaborative Committee of Turkey Creek.

Most all the area hospitals can always use hats and blankets. Some can even use new onesies and other items.

The Knoxville Chapter even gives patterns you can use too.
