Prevent Food From Getting Soggy In a Cooler

I want to give you a tip that can help you save your food from getting soggy when you put it in a cooler with ice. This can come handy if you take your youth group, church group, ministry group, scouting trip or even your family camping, to a special social event, an outdoor event, etc. You may pack a lunch or something and find out your bread got soggy, or something else got water logged cause the ice melted in the cooler and there is almost nothing but water inside.

Instead of buying a bag of ice and loosely putting it in the cooler and then the food as well. Try this instead …

Take empty and cleaned plastic drink bottles with a lid and fill it with water. Free them. Don’t feel them too full or they may burst in the freezer. Make sure you clean the bottles first before putting water in them.

You can use these bottles from

  • Water
  • Soda (Like Pepsi, Coca-Cola, RC, products etc.)
  • Sports Drinks (Powerade, Gatorade, etc.)
  • Any other type of hard plastic bottle with a twist on lid

Put those bottles inside the cooler and then put your food on top, you could also post some around the food too. This will help keep your food cold and not water log or soak your food in water.

Frozen Water Bottles not only can work in the above, but you can also make a homemade air conditioning unit with frozen water bottles, an old cooler, a fan and pvc pipe.

Also Frozen Water Bottles also are good to take with you hiking, so you can cold drinking water with you as you hike or go to the social out door event.
