Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth – National Day of Prayer 2020
National Day Prayer is always held the first Thursday in May. This day of prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
National Day of Prayer 2020 will be held on May 7th.
This year’s theme, “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth”, is based on Habakkuk 2:14, and reminds us that this promise, “for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” is for us today. National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force President, Kathy Branzell, put it this way, “Unprecedented times call for unprecedented prayer! This years ‘virtual’ National Day of Prayer Observance may have more prayer – and more ‘pray-ers’ than ever before!”
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.Habakkuk 2:14 KJV
“For the earth will be filledHabakkuk 2:14 NASB
With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
As the waters cover the sea.
Each year, people gather across our nation, in over 60,000 local community events to pray together for America. While the number of people gathering may be different this year, the prayers we pray will be multiplied and amplified through new and creative approaches, combined with unprecedented access to digital platforms. In homes, neighborhoods, communities, cities, states, nation and the world, observing recommended ‘social distancing’ measures, our NDP coordinators are planning to mobilize millions in unified, public prayer for America.
Past National Day of Prayers
- 2019 – Love One Another
- 2018 – Pray for America – Unity
- 2017 – For Your Great Names Sake
- 2016 – Wake Up America
- 2015 – Lord Hear our Cry
- 2014 – One Voice, United in Prayer
Focusing on using these digital platforms, this year’s ‘virtual’ observances have the potential to become the largest prayer ‘gathering’ in U.S. history – with millions praying together, individually. In addition to virtual events being held in communities across our nation, The National Day of Prayer National Observance Broadcast will take place on May 7, 2020 – 8:00 -10:00 ET.
It will be broadcast, streamed and posted in many ways including on our website, seen LIVE on our Facebook page and cross-posted by many of our ministry partners. It will be viewed on television on GodTV, Daystar, Next Level Church (NLC), and BrioTV, with more stations to come, and on radio through Moody Radio and Bott Radio Networks.
“We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep. I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up forfeiting this freedom, too.”Shirley Dobson, National Day of Prayer Chairman Emeritus
