Phil Fox Sr. Memorial Park – Eagle Scouts from Barbourville, KY

Phil Fox Sr. Memorial Park – Eagle Scouts from Barbourville, KY – This weeks Travel Thursday takes us to Barbourville, KY where you can find this Eagle Scout memorial for Phil Fox.

I took this easy to get to trip back in July 2017. Heather of SimplySpokn took me to this site because I am an Eagle Scout. This memorial has every Eagle Scout of the Barbourville, KY area. It is located at the corner of South Broadway Street and Daniel Boone Road. The monument also contains both Heather’s Dad (Tim Johnson – 1974) and Uncle (Douglas Johnson – 1978). This memorial was part of an Eagle Scout project for Cameron A. Warren, who obtained his rank of Eagle in 2010.

The very first Eagle Scout is shown as Lewis Hopper in 1962.  It has plenty of room to add more Eagle Scouts as they attain the rank of Eagle. You will also find a bench that matches the name monument. Plus, you will find info about the Boy Scouts of America such as the Boy Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto and the Boy Scout Ranks. Let’s not forget an American Flag!

Plus, you will find info about Philipp Fox Sr., Scoutmaster, Mentor, Friend on one side of the information boards. Fox was involved in the Boy Scouts for over 50 years. He was a Boy Scout himself. Fox however, only made it to the rank of Life, the rank before Eagle. He lived in Ohio at that time. Later he moved to the Knox County, KY area at age 20. By, 1948, Fox became the Scoutmaster of a troop in Artemus. It wasn’t until 1959, where he became the Scoutmaster of Troop 18 in Barbourville, KY. That troop renumbered two times to 518 than to 529. He remained a Scoutmaster until 1984. After that, he remained as an Assistant Scoutmaster until his death in 1999 at age 90.
