Paul Apostle of Christ Movie Review

There might possibly be some spoilers in this review.

Paul is one of my most favorite Bible characters and figured doing a review of this movie would be great.

About the movie

PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST is the story of two men. Luke, as a friend and physician, risks his life when he ventures into the city of Rome to visit Paul, who is held captive in Nero’s darkest, bleakest prison cell. But Nero is determined to rid Rome of Christians, and does not flinch from executing them in the grisliest ways possible. Before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.

Bound in chains, Paul’s struggle is internal. He has survived so much—floggings, shipwreck, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst, cold and exposure—yet as he waits for his appointment with death, he is haunted by the shadows of his past misdeeds. Alone in the dark, he wonders if he has been forgotten . . . and if he has the strength to finish well.

Two men struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world.

The Cast

My Review

This might be some spoiler alerts by reading this review.  I liked the film, however I would have loved to see more of the whole life of Paul, like his first, second and third missionary journeys. But, you will hear Paul sharing with Luke about his life.

I say go watch this movie, but I don’t highly recommend it. Yes,I said that. After all, I have to give an honest unbiased review. So I would say one thumbs up for this movie! I think this review was one of the hardest ones I have yet done. I guess mostly because it wasn’t what I thought it was about, like I mentioned above. I will also admit there was times I got bored in the movie, mostly in the first half. However, there were also times I got into watching it.

I believe most of this story seems from the Book of Acts. The story is set in Rome in 67 AD, near the end of Paul’s life. You also get to see a lot about Doctor Luke in the movie too. You will hear scripture in the movie mostly from the Roman Epistle. However, keep in mind Romans was written around 57-58 AD. I even heard some scripture from 1 Corinthians too.

This is time I wished I was more grounded in the Bible. I believe Paul is the most inspiring person to me of the Bible. I even took a class on the Life of Paul too.

I didn’t see much of Paul in the first 30 minutes of the movie. I will say the movie got better toward the end of the movie. I will advice you will see people being burned.

I don’t think this movie is one for younger children.

Yes, I know they add story line of what could have happened like conversations had etc.

So sit back and watch the story unfold with Paul sharing with Luke about his life.

I also do know this movie is done via ODB Films, a Catholic ministry. So you may see some Catholicism in the movie.
