This day is held annually on October 2. I have been seeing scallops cooked on many of the cooking competition shows and thought they looked good to eat. I tried some scallops for the first time not all that long ago.

What is a Scallop?

any of the bivalve mollusks of the genus Argopecten (Pecten) and related genera that swim by rapidly clapping the fluted shell valves together.the adductor muscle of certain species of such mollusks, used as food.one of the shells of such a mollusk, usually having radial ribs and a wavy outer edge.

I tried it at BD’s Mongolion Grill in Lexington, KY. They had the baby ones that you can add into your stir fry. So I did that. I had mine like cajun and it was good. The other time, was the big ones at Little Tokyo Cafe in Seymour, TN. There I had them Teriyaki and they were good too.

They are expensive to eat. I priced them at my Food City, the big ones are $18.99 per pound and the baby ones are $8.99 per pound.

These are very easy to overcook. When you do, they get rubbery and tough to eat. But, when cooked right taste good and can melt in your mouth.

I am not sure when or how this day got started.
