Bratwurst is a great sausage to grill! There are many forms of this delicious meat. Some can be spicy and others sweet. Not to mention, some plain too.

This day is held annually on August 16. From what I can tell it was created by Johnsonville in 2013. Johnsonville in Wisconsin is the largest manufacture of sausage by revenue in America.

They originated in Nuremberg, Germany, in the 14th century, and their name is derived from two German words.

Braten”, meaning “to fry” or “to roast”, and “wurst”, meaning “sausage”. Put them together you have a fried sausage or roasted sausage.

Meats

  • Pork
  • Veal
  • Beef
  • Chicken
  • Venison (Deer)

Sometimes they will mix one or more of these meats into the one brautworst. This sausage can be called Brat or Brats for short.

Some people eat them with sauerkraut (typical German dish). Some use cheese or other type of dipping sauce. Plus, some people eat them like a hot dog, using hot dog bun. You can even fry them with onions and peppers.

Grill them them is the best!
