Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS)

I share about a local Ministry, MATS. Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS) who bring hope for the homeless. #MATS

Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS): I would like to to let you know about a local ministry that I just found out about. I found this out because of a customer who came into my work with an upcoming benefit concert at his church. This ministry is called MATS (Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter).

Dr. Gary Brewster, Executive Director shared with me. “We are a self-sufficiency ministry for the homeless started 28 years ago by local churches, pastors and para-church ministries. We bring over 400 individual men, women, and whole families including children into the program per year”

About MATS

  • MATS was founded by five churches in the Morristown, TN area.
  • MATS provides the residents with programs to help them be successful after they leave.
  • As of September 2014, MATS has served over 10,264 residents.
  • MATS is recognized as a “Best Practice Agency” by the State of Tennessee.

The facility is operated in Hamblen County, but serve the near by counties of Jefferson, Grainger, Hawkins, Hancock, Claiborne, Union, Greene and Sevier counties.

MATS also provides temporary shelter for homeless people; to provide meals to homeless people; to provide assistance to homeless people such as counseling, job search and referrals; and to provide public education on the problems of homelessness

Not only do they take money donations they can take certain supplies and items as donations too. Some items are office supplies, toiletry items, certain gift cards, clothing and more. Check out their website for the complete list.
To sum it up: “MATS is a compassionate ministry which, provides today’s needs and works to heal and help secure the future of those who are temporarily displaced.”

You can find out more about MATS on their website at or on their Facebook Page.”

I took info from the email from Dr. Brewster, their website and their Facebook page.
