Lost Penny Day

February 12 - Lost a Penny Day - Pennies don’t seem like much alone, together they add up. Use this day to gather up your loose change and donate it to charity or someone in need.

My wife and I have a change bucket and fill it up throughout the year.

This day is Celebrated each year on February 12.

The first penny ever was designed by Benjamin Franklin and minted in 1787. The penny we’re familiar with today, however, adorned with the bust of late American president Abraham Lincoln, was first minted in 1909 and released on February 12th to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth.

All pennies from 1959 to 2008 also feature a tiny image of the statue within the Memorial.

“Petty change can make an astounding difference”, which is a positive message indeed, and one we can suspect Honest Abe himself would have supported. In fact, one of Lincoln’s most well-known quotes was, “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward”.

The founder of Lost Penny Day, Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith, wrote a log post about her idea, explaining that what she was trying to demonstrate.

In 2014, it cost 1.67 cents to make a penny. More than the penny is worth.

old saying …

“Find a penny pick it up, all day you’ll have good luck.

Some people believe you can’t pick up a penny on tails. I don’t believe in luck or that superstition, I pick up all pennies and put them in our change jar. As they are pennies from Heaven.

Maybe share the Parable of the Lost Coin ….

“Or what woman, if she has ten [asilver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
