Lay your treasure … what is your treasure? When the Bible tells us not to lay treasures on earth, but in heaven, what exactly are the treasures the Bible is talking about?
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Is it some kind of riches like gold and silver?
thēsauros (θησαυρός)
The Greek word for Treasure is: thēsauros (θησαυρός). See Strongs G2344.
- the place in which good and precious things are collected and laid up
- a casket, coffer, or other receptacle, in which valuables are kept
- a treasury
- storehouse, repository, magazine
- the things laid up in a treasury, collected treasures
The only thing that can go to Heaven is Saved Souls, meaning, those born again, accepted Jesus Christ as personal savior. So our treasures to take with us is all of those around us … Family, Friends, Classmates, Coworkers, Everyone we can reach! Things like gold, silver, diamonds, gems, etc. can and will get destroyed. Those things are not everlasting like the soul is. The soul will go to one of two places … Heaven or Hell. Where will your eternal destination be?
We cannot take our earthly possessions with us! Remember you don’t see the moving truck behind the hearse. Our earthly stuff can be stolen, ruined, etc. When we die, that JUNK is just left to our loved ones or even the state or government. If we bury it, it may never be found or stolen like you see in pirate movies.
We are ALL called to reach the lost! That includes those around us. Everyone we come in contact with is a person we have a chance to share the gospel with. That includes our waiter, waitress, cashier, etc.
If you notice the Greek word again … thēsauros (θησαυρός). It is the same word we get for the book called a thesaurus (a book of words or of information about a particular field or set of concepts.) In the early 19th century, archaeologists borrowed the Latin word thesaurus to denote an ancient treasury, such as that of a temple. (Merriam-Webster)
