John 6

John 6 - Today is Day 6 of the 21 Day Gospel of John Challenge. That means you will need to read the sixth chapter of John. #John6

This is a longer chapter in the Gospel of John, has it has 71 verses. There are six headings throughout the sixth chapter of John.

1. Five Thousand Fed

Verses 1-14 is a familiar story, often told a lot in Children’s Church or a Sunday School lesson to the children. This is where Jesus fed the multitude with five barley loaves and two fish from a young boy.

After they ate, they filled up filled twelve baskets with fragments. Can you image feeding a multitude, meaning thousands of people with what little that young boy had.

Jesus however, was able to stretch it out and fill everyone’s tummy with the bread and and fish and still had fragments leftover.

2. Jesus Walks on the Water

Verses 15-25.

This is also a well known story, also often told in Children’s Church where Jesus walks on the water. Even Peter was able to walk on the water, until he took his eyes off Jesus.

3. Words to the People

Verses 26-40

Jesus was talking to the people who just witnesses the feeding of the multitude. He made a statement to them …

“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”

John 6:29

This is where Jesus was talking to them and letting them know He is the Bread of Life. He also told them He came down from Heaven not to do His will, but the Will of the Father (aka God).

It also states those who Believe in Jesus will have eternal life with Him.

4. Words to the Jews

Verses 41-58

Here As the heading states, Jesus was talking to the Jews. The Jews here were grumbling because of Jesus saying He came down from Heaven and was the Bread of Life.

A Verse that stands out to me in this section is …

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him

John 6:44

The Father Drawing, often is known as Unconditional Election. That it is nothing we do, but what God goes. I think that is because we are totally deprived.

Jesus goes on to let them know that those who ate the manna from Moses that came from Heaven died, but if you take of the Bread of Life (aka Jesus) you will have eternal life.

5. Words to the Disciples

Verses 59-65

Now Jesus shifts his words from the people and from the Jews to His Disciples. In this section we do see that Jesus knew before hand who would believe and who would betray Him.

For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.

John 6:64

6. Peter’s Confession of Faith

Verses 66-71

This is the last section of this chapter. After this, the disciples parted and went away. (Didn’t walk with Him anymore). However, Simon Peter, stayed, because He knew He had the Words to Eternal Life. Jesus even pointed out that Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, was the devil and was going to betray Him.
