There are 27 verses in the 15th Chapter of John along with 3 headers.

1. Jesus Is the Vine—Followers Are Branches

Verses 1-11

Jesus uses an analogy here with a vine and branches. He shows that He is the vine, the main source, and we are the branches. Note He is the True Vine!

In order for us to be fruitful, we must be connected to the vine, Jesus Christ.

Also, Jesus uses an analogy with the bad branches. They are not good for anything but to be put in the fire. Well, those who are not part of Jesus, will be cast into the eternal lake of fire.

2. Disciples’ Relation to Each Other

Verses 12-17

Again, Jesus goes over love. He also said no greater love than one to lay down their own life for another. That is exactly what Jesus did on the Cross.

In this section, we find that we don’t choose Jesus. Jesus chooses us. This is a form of Election.

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit

John 15:16

3. Disciples’ Relation to the World

Verses 18-27

This section can give us hope if the world hates us. After all, the world hated Christ too. Well, if you feel persecution, it is okay. Even Jesus was persecuted. Well, because we are a part of Jesus, we will face persecution. Sadly, some people will face it more than others. But, we do, even in small cases.

Jesus reminds them about the Helper to come, the Holy Spirit.
