John 13

John 13 - Today is Day 13 of the 21 Day Gospel of John Challenge. Today read chapter 13 of the Gospel of John. #John13 #BGBG2

The 13th Chapter has 38 verses with 3 headers.

1. The Lord’s Supper

Verses 1-4

This is also known as communion. Where we take the bread element for His broken body and the Juice element for His shed blood. When Jesus did this with the disciples it was before the Feast of the Passover.

2. Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet

Verses 5-20

There are some churches that practice the washing of each others feet. I have not participated in that. But, this shows where Jesus came to serve, not be served. Washing of the feet is an act of a servant.

It was customary to wash the feet back then, because they worse sandals (Jerusalem Cruisers some people call them.) That is because they had open toe type of shoes and walked in the dessert sandy areas.

This is where Peter refused for Jesus to wash his feet, but Jesus said He had to wash his feet or he would not have any part with Him. That is when Peter asked to be washed on his hand and head. He realized he was uncleaned before the Lord.

Jesus also knew about the one who would betray Him … Judas.

The washing of the feet also showed the slave is not greater than the master, nor the master greater than the slave.

3. Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

Verses 21-38

As I mentioned before, the Gospel of John is the best book to start reading the Bible, because it goes over the who life and ministry of Jesus. Including this section right here, where Jesus predicts the one who will betray Him.

That is when Jesus took the hand of Judas and dipped the bread in the cup. When that occurred, Satan entered into Judas. Jesus let Judas know to do what he had to do and do it quickly.

However, the disciples were unaware of what Judas was doing.

Then Jesus gave a new commandment …

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35

The old saying Proof is in the Pudding! One key evidence in a believer is that they love!

This where Jesus also told Peter that he will deny Him before the roaster crows three times.
