It’s Not About You, Mr. Pumpkin

In the past I got to review a similar book in the It’s Not About You series by Soraya Diase Coffelt. I got to review It’s Not About You, Mr. Santa Claus. This time I get to review It’s Not About You, Mr. Pumpkin. Another book in The Love Letters Book Series. This book is an inspirational or a love letter about the true meaning of Halloween. In this book a child writes a letter to Mr. Pumpkin and shares about the true origins of Halloween that others often miss or maybe don’t even know about.

This book starts off talking about what we all know about Halloween, Trick-or-Treats. I do like what the child asked the pumpkin happened to his teeth, but that wasn’t the point of the book. That was just the intro.

It then the letter goes on as the child explains things to Mr. Pumpkin about Halloween, the Druids, evil spirits being summoned and more that happens on Halloween. This book tells you how Trick or Treat began.

The book tells you why people started to decorate their homes and even how the scarecrow got started and black cats. I am with this child that is writing the letter. I love cats. I am a cat person myself.

This book talks how bats and witches came into Halloween too. Ever played the game bobbing for apples? This book tells you what it meant and what a carved pumpkin meant.

Yes there is more to Halloween than the book mentioned, but again this book is for young children. So it covers the basics about what we know about Halloween.

Maybe this book will change some of the ways you think about Halloween or your participation in this Celtic holiday.

Here is a quote from the book.

“So, Mr. Pumpkin, that’s how Halloween started. It really isn’t a holiday about kids dressing up in costumes and getting candy.”

Reading this book made me realize a few more things about Halloween that I didn’t know. But, I do believe this is a great read for anyone with children. I am an adult and enjoyed this easy to read book with great illustrations too. It was easy to understand and easy to read. I do believe it was put on a child’s level too.

I believe you and your family would enjoy this book and learn about how Halloween was started and what Halloween truly is, on a kid level. I encourage you to go buy a copy of this book and read it with your family or any young children that you can.

With the purchase of this book, you will also get a free eBook version too.

This book was written by Soraya Diase Coffelt and illustrated by Tea Seroya. Also a portion of the cost of the book goes to a non-profit foundation, As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, Inc. That assist with physical and spiritual needs of children. You can read a tid-bit about Soraya Diase Coffelt in the first review I done, It’s Not About You, Mr. Santa Claus

Make sure you follow this blog as I will also get to review another one of the books in the love letter book series. It’s Not About You, Mrs. Turkey.
