Homemade Sweet Tea
Sweet tea is a southern staple driving, often cannot find it north of the Mason Dixon Line.
To set the record straight adding sugar to iced tea is not the same. The sugar must be added when the tea is hot. Sugar dissolves better in hot liquid. If the liquid is cold, it makes a gritty drink.
Homemade Sweet Tea
Ingredients
- Water
- Sugar (to taste)
- Tea bags
Directions
- Boil water
- Once water boils, remove from heat
- Place tea bag(s) in hot water
- Allow to brew for Approx 5-8 minutes, plus or minus, depends on strength you want and type of tea bags
- Remove tea bag(s)
- Add sugar (desired sweetnesses)
- Stir
- Put over ice or in jug
- Chill and enjoy

My sweet tea
Usually when I make my sweet tea, I use one family tea bag per half gallon and 1 ½ cups of sugar. (2 family tea bags and 3 cups of sugar for a gallon). But I do like my sweet tea sweet. But not too sweet.
It is estimated 1 lb. Of sugar is about 2 1/4 cups of sugar (+/-).
Usually it takes 2 tea bags per half gallon (4 per gallon). But I use only one and brew it longer.
Did you know most of your premade teas at the store will use corn syrup instead of sugar. Plus they add Carmel color. One tea that doesn’t it Milo’s.

Equipment
- 1 pot
- 1 funnel
- 1 jug
Ingredients
- 1 tea bag
- 1.5 Cups sugar
- .5 Gallon water
Instructions
- Boil water
- Remove from heat
- put in tea bag
- Brew 5 to 7 mins
- remove tea bag (do not squeeze tea bag)
- add sugar
- stir
- funnel into jug
- pour over ice in cup (or chill in fridge)
