How I Learned to Drive

How I Learned to Drive – I share with my readers how I learned to drive.

How I Learned to Drive

I was in high school in the 1990’s when I learned to drive. I have driven all kinds of cars and trucks. Not to mention, I can drive both an automatic and stick shift. While I was in high school, I took Drivers Education (Drivers Ed). Of course the car(s) I first learned to drive, didn’t look like the inside of this car. A guy my mom went to college with even took me to a few UT Home football games and also let me go out driving.

My Drivers Ed teacher first had us driving  in a cemetery.

Yes, you saw that cemetery. (Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, TN) Then we got another teacher in the middle of that term, and he took us out on the road.

When I was in my mid-to-late 20’s. I was given a car, but it was a stick shift. I had to learn to drive it in order to get it. The couple that was giving it to me, made me to one of the big church in Knoxville to learn. Just say, I was in the parking lot with teenagers learning too that day. But, that got me know how to learn to drive a straight shift. I think everyone should have to know how to drive one. You never know when that might be your only means away from where you are.

Today, I love to drive! When I thought, Amber, my daughter to drive, I had her pull in and out of a parking spot at Piedmont Baptist Church. Then I made her drive down to the tiny cemetary. (Piedmont Cemetery). It was nothing like the huge one, I learned to drive in – as it had many forks and ways to go. This one only has one way and loops to the street. I had her loop around a few times. Then I made her drive home.

I guess what helps make it something you will always remember when you first learned to drive for both myself and my daughter.
