Good Friday, a Christian Holiday, is the Friday before Easter. It is part of the Holy Week. This happens after the paschal moon, which can also mean Passover Moon, that is why Good Friday and Easter usually occurs during the Jewish Holiday, the Passover. #GoodFriday #BGBG2

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Jesus was condemned by his peers as King Herod and Pontius Pilate had found him not guilty of his crimes. But crowds were enraged, and Pilate reluctantly ordered his crucifixion rather than face a mass riot.
Good Friday What Good Is It?
Why Good? Because it is Holy. Some say this is a day of giving because Christ gave Himself for us. John 15:13 (Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.) Good Friday has also been known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, God Friday and Black Friday.
Why is it good we celebrate a death? Well that is because Christ Died for our sins and he conquered death to give us everlasting life. John 3:16. It’s a day of great love and sacrifice. Sins were forgiven for those who truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone. We celebrate the virgin birth, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this day he died on the Cross. Then in 3 days arose from the grave.
Jesus Died on the Cross of Calvary
This is the day that Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary. How can you make death good especially the death Christ experienced by Crucifixion? This was the most painful death penalty there was. However, Jesus conquered death and defeated sin on the Cross. That is why it is good! He died to save us from our sins. Jesus not only died for us, but He was also buried and arose from the dead three days later. Also the meaning of good can mean holy, some say pious, Latin, which means religious.
Location of Calvary
Scripture doesn’t really share where the exact location of Calvary was, the place where Christ hung on the Cross. Calvary is Latin, means The hill near Jerusalem on which Jesus was crucified. The name is Latin for “Place of the Skull”; it is also called Golgotha, according to dictionary.com. Notice a hill near Jerusalem, that shows it was outside the city of Jerusalem. I believe that is because the Jewish law did not permit or allow executions and burials inside the city. Maybe Calvary is not a place but in a person … Jesus Christ?

Beat, Blogged, Mocked, Etc.
This is the day our Savior was beat, flogged, mocked, made fun, spat upon, hung up on an old wooden Cross. He was beat so bad you could not recognize Him. They say He was so bad that most men would have died just from the flogging. His flesh was like ribbons hanging down. We all know that He had to come to die. Jesus knew he had to die to save us. He became the final sacrificial lamb used during the Passover.
No Bones Were Broken
Usually the break your leg bones so that you will die. Hanging on a cross is hard to breathe, so people would push up to breathe. Breaking the legs makes it hard for the person to push up. But Jesus was already dead. He choose when to die. So no bones were broken as prophecy foretold. (See Exodus 12:46 & Numbers 9:12 & Psalm 34:20) The spear pierced into His side poured out water. A sign that a person is dead. If you were still alive, blood would have came out.
6 Hours on the Cross
Jesus Christ hung for 6 hours on the Cross. The last 3 hours darkness filled the Earth, where God couldn’t look upon Jesus because Jesus took the sin of the world. Even a great earthquake took place during the time of darkness. Jesus Cried out My God, My God Why Hath Though Forsaken Me. He knew His Father couldn’t look on him. Sin separates us from God. Jesus even said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” At the end of the 6th hour, Jesus Said, “It if finished!” Jesus gave up the ghost or spirit. Which means he died. Finished meant debt paid, the task complete. He paid the debt for us.
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Hebrews 9:22
By His wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
Remember these same people were praising and worshiping Him on Palm Sunday are now the ones saying to crucify Him.
The day before Good Friday is Maundy Thursday.
You can experience the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Gospels in the Bible. All four of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John give an account of this. These four Gospels are great to read as they can give the account of the full life of Christ from His birth to His Death including His Burial and His Resurrection and more.
You can read about the accounts of the crucifixion:
- Luke 23:1-56
- Matthew 27:1-66
- John 19:1-42
- Mark 15:1-47
The final sacrificial lamb
Jesus became the final sacrificial lamb. He died a death He didn’t deserve and we owe Him a debt we can never repay. But that is the great thing about the love of God. God ask up to accept His Son, Believe that His Son died for our sins and to Repent, to turn away from our sinful desires. His death meant “Once and Done!”. Never more to do any other sacrificial lambs.
Good Friday a Legal or State Holiday?
Good Friday is also a legal holiday in many countries including 12 U.S. States, Tennessee, my state, being one of them. This might say something about our nation as a whole, only 12 of the 50 states.
According to WikiPedia: Good Friday is a state holiday in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. State and local government offices and courts are closed, as well as some banks and postal offices in these states, and in those counties and municipalities where Good Friday is observed as a holiday. Good Friday is also a holiday in the U.S. territories of Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
