Drinking Straw Day - A Day that honors the believed straw that we drink from. #DrinkingStraw #DrinkingStrawDay

This day to honor the drinking straw occurs on January 3 each year to commemorates the date in 1888 that Marvin C. Stone received the patent for the paper drinking straw. (Stone’s Patent # US375962 on January 3, 1888.)

The first straw Stone made was just paper wound around a pencil to make a thin tube, and he then slid out pencil out from one end and applied glue between the strips.

Today they are made from plastic, metal, glass and other materials.

It is believed straws were used much sooner than that.

Plus the drinking Straw has other uses too. Check out this list of uses for the drinking straw.
