American Bible Society Launches New Top-Level Domain .Bible

American Bible Society is once again pioneering new ways to access the Bible. The ministry is administering the new .Bible top-level domain (TLD), opening up a new platform for Bible engagement. The first site to launch was American Bible Society’s American.Bible, which makes the message of the Bible accessible to people in a way that fits their digital lives. Countless more websites will follow from a variety of organizations.

American.Bible launched on Sept. 3, 2015. Other sites featuring this new domain name will begin to appear later this month and will be available for public purchase in early 2016. Among the first to follow American Bible Society’s launch on the Dot Bible TLD (nic.bible) will be ministry partner sites such as YouVersion, United Bible Societies, Faith Comes By Hearing, Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Bible Hub, Christian Leadership Alliance, Crossway and Reason for Truth. A current list of partner sites launched can be viewed at nic.bible/launched.

“We are thrilled to be paving the way as one of the first organizations using the new .Bible domain,” said YouVersion Founder Bobby Gruenewald. “We are passionate about leveraging technology to help this generation engage with the Bible, and this new digital environment will allow us to do just that.”

All sites featuring the .Bible domain will be owned by individuals and groups that have a respect for the Bible and will be focused on positive Bible-related content. American Bible Society will provide ongoing monitoring to ensure the .Bible domain continues to provide a trusted online space for those seeking to engage with the Bible.

“The message of the Bible is unchanging, but how we deliver that message is constantly changing,” said Andrew Hood, American Bible Society’s managing director of communications. “This top-level domain provides a new opportunity for delivering the hope and encouragement found in God’s Word.”

The Dot Bible TLD is part of American Bible Society’s digital strategy to achieve the ministry’s 100/100 vision to see 100 million Americans engaging with the Bible and 100 percent of the world’s languages translated for Bible engagement. The addition of .Bible will accelerate global online Bible access and facilitate engagement in ways not previously possible.
