Changing our World

Changing our World is the 11th Talk I had on my Walk to Emmaus from the Great Smoky Mountain Emmaus Community. I was on Walk #32 in 1998. These are my notes on this talk.

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
    And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
    and to walk humbly with your God.
(Micah 6:8)

We are to walk humbly with God. We must have a plan to stay anchored to it. We also need a personal revival and discipline to do it.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
(2 Corinthians 7:14)

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is majestic.
(Psalm 29:3-4)

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
(Romans 12:1-2)

Also read Colossians 3:1-25. The first 17 verses talks about Living as those made alive in Christ. In verses 18 to 25 they give us instructions for a Christian Household. We are to take away the old and put on the new. We are to draw toward the light of Jesus Christ. When we do, He will show us what we need to change.

We are to show mercy and love.

Interesting Stats

These are stats from 1998 when I went on the Walk. I am not sure what the stats are now.
(I welcome anyone share a comment if they know)

  • 65% of those 50 or older are Christians.
  • 35% of those between the ages of 30 to 50 are Christians.
  • 15% of those between the ages of 18-30 are Christians.
  • 2/3 of the residents in the State of Tennessee are UNSaved.

I am unaware of where these stats came from, they were just given to us at the talk.

Make Inventory!

  1. Who needs to hear about Jesus Christ?
  2. Who needs to see you live it?
  3. Who needs to feel God’s love?

I was told a good book to read is Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire: What Happens When God’s Spirit Invades the Hearts of His People. This book is by Jim Cymbia. ISBN: 0310251532. I have not read this book. So I do not know anything about this book. I will have to look into this book and read it myself.

Matthew 25:1-46. Shares 3 Parables. These Parables talk about how it would be like toward the end of time. Verses 1-13 is the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Verses 14-30 is the Parable of the Bags of Gold. The last big of that chapter in verses 31-46 is the Parable of The Sheep and Goats.

A form or mercy for example is giving food baskets. A form of Justice is finding out why they need the food baskets.

1 Corinthians 3:1-23. This chapter talks about the Church and its leaders.

38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
(Matthew 8:38-39)

The above verse shows we are to share with other’s the Good News! The Good News that God sent his Son, Jesus Christ to die on the the Cross for our sins.
