The phrase “God helps those who help themselves” is often attributed to scripture

The phrase “God helps those who help themselves” is often attributed to scripture, but in reality, it is not found in the Bible. Rather, it has become a popular adage ingrained in common discourse. However, as Christians, it’s important to understand that this sentiment conflicts with the teachings of our faith. The Bible emphasizes that our reliance should be on God, not solely on our own abilities. Let’s explore this further and discover what it truly means to depend on God’s strength in all aspects of our lives. #bgbg2

The phrase "God helps those who help themselves" is often attributed to scripture, but in reality, it is not found in the Bible. Rather, it has become a popular adage ingrained in common discourse. However, as Christians, it's important to understand that this sentiment conflicts with the teachings of our faith. The Bible emphasizes that our reliance should be on God, not solely on our own abilities. Let's explore this further and discover what it truly means to depend on God's strength in all aspects of our lives. #bgbg2

“Without Me, you can do nothing.”

John 15:5

Our Inability and God’s Sufficiency:

The words of Jesus in John 15:5 remind us that apart from Him, we can accomplish nothing. This verse highlights our inherent inability to achieve lasting success, fulfillment, or salvation through our own efforts alone. Recognizing this truth is humbling, as it reminds us of our need for God’s strength and guidance in every aspect of our lives.

Working Diligently for God’s Glory:

While we are called to rely on God, this does not mean we should be passive or idle. Colossians 3:17 teaches us that whatever we do, whether in our words or actions, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, with gratitude to God. This verse encourages us to approach our work, relationships, and endeavors with diligence, excellence, and integrity, always seeking to bring glory to God.

Trusting in God’s Provision:

As Christians, we are called to trust in God’s provision and guidance, knowing that He will take care of our needs. This does not mean we sit back and do nothing, but rather it invites us to align our efforts with God’s will and trust that He will lead us on the right path. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, acknowledging Him in all our ways, and allowing Him to direct our steps.

Seeking God’s Strength in Challenges:

When faced with challenges, it is easy to rely solely on our own abilities, thinking that we can overcome them through sheer willpower. However, the Bible teaches us that our strength comes from the Lord. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul shares how he delighted in his weaknesses because it was in those moments that God’s power was made perfect. We, too, can find strength in surrendering our weaknesses to God and relying on His power to carry us through difficult times.

Conclusion:

While the adage “God helps those who help themselves” may sound appealing, it contradicts the essence of Christian teachings. As followers of Christ, we are called to rely on God’s strength, recognizing our own inadequacies, and trusting in His provision. We are encouraged to work diligently, not for personal gain but to bring glory to God. Let us remember that true fulfillment and success come from aligning our efforts with God’s will, seeking His guidance, and acknowledging His power in every aspect of our lives.

20th anniversary of the powerful film, “The Passion of the Christ.” In 2004, director Mel Gibson brought to the big screen a visceral and unflinching portrayal of the final hours of Jesus Christ. The film, aptly titled “The Passion of the Christ,” chronicles the agony, betrayal, arrest, torture, and crucifixion of Jesus. Here are some key points to reflect upon:
  • No Bones About It — Jesus is Alive!
The phrase ‘No Bones About It’ is often used as well to state a fact with no doubt meaning Christ arose from the dead His bones were never found! Jesus Christ is surely alive!
  • Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday)
Maundy Thursday we don’t hear about this day too much, especially as a Baptist. Holy Week, that starts on Palm Sunday, week before the resurrection of Christ. Maundy Thursday falls the day before Good Friday and Easter. This is just a short write up on this day. #MaundyThursday #HolyThursday
  • Searching for Christ
Why do we go searching for Christ as if He is lost and someone to be found. We have it wrong it’s the other way around, Christ is seeking us who is lost so we can be found!
  • Spy Wednesday
Spy Wednesday or known as Holy Wednesday or even known as Great and Holy Wednesday. Sometimes known as Good Wednesday. This is the Wednesday that leads up to Easter. Part of Holy Week. #SpyWedneday #HolyWednesday #GoodWednesday
