Proverbs 12

Proverbs 12 – As part of the 31 Day Proverbs Challenge, I am doing one chapter per day for 31 days since there is 31 chapters also in the Book of Proverbs. This is day 12 of 31, therefore I am focusing on Proverbs 12.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Today read the whole chapter of Proverbs 12. There are 28 verses in this chapter. (Proverbs 12:1-28).

Proverbs 12

This Proverb starts off talking about if you love discipline, some translations will say instruction, you also love knowledge, meaning that you are teachable. You are willing to seek out and accept godly wisdom. You are able to admit when you are wrong. It also means you are willing to be corrected and disciplined. But if you don’t you are a fool. You are not always right! The Bible says if you hate correction, some translations will say reproof, then you are stupid. Yes, the Bible says stupid! Just like the Bible says fool. Some translations will say brutish.

Proverbs 12:1 - Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

Brutish or stupid, the actual Hebrew word used is בַּעַר ba`ar (bah’·ar). According that Lexicon, #H1198, it does mean stupid or foolish. It is used five other times in the King James Version Bible. It was mostly used to describe the stupidity of cattle.

[pullquote]Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.[/pullquote]

According to Dictionary.com, it can mean brutal, cruel, gross, coarse, uncivilized, bestial (like an animal).

So the word stupid has a lowness to it.

This Proverb has contracting verses. It gives two different views as in bad and good and those for God and those against God.

Favor in the eyes of God

If you want to have favor in the eyes of God, you must do good, follow God’s Law. If you want the wrath of God then you need to live in open sin, sin without repentance and follow evil and do evil to others.

If you are wicked

If you are evil and wicked you will never get anywhere, but if you are righteous and do good, you will not be moved. It may seem that people doing evil that all the good things are happening to them, but let me remind you our reward is not here on earth, our reward will come later and in heaven. But did you know what man means evil for, God has good that will come out of it. It might not be right away, but later down the road something good will come.

An excellent wife

If you are an excellent wife, or a wife of valor, a virtuous woman, as I will talk about in a later Proverbs coming up, so make sure you follow my blog so you don’t miss that! But this type of wife is like a crown to her husband. She is a great gift to him. But, a woman that does wrong, bring shame to her husband and her family. You can read more about the Virtuous woman in the 31 Chapter of Proverbs. Why husbands you must find a godly woman and women you must find a godly man.

Way to the fool

The way to please the fool is by his eyes. The lust and desires of his eyes. As he seeks after things that will satisfy himself and his flesh. He doesn’t seek after things of God. He likes that eye appeal or eye candy as some people call it. He will not seek counsel, he will do what he thinks is best.

Lying Lips

Plenty of times the Bible tells us God cannot stand those who lie. Lying is an abomination to the Lord, as stated in verse 22 (Proverbs 12:22). It tells us God loves the truth. After all God is truth. Most people who lie will hide things to cover up that lie. But that lie is not hidden from God.

The Foolish Person

Proverbs 12 also talk about good and evil, it tells us that a foolish person thinks his way is right. It also talks about lying, making false statements is wrong. That when you lie, it is only last for a moment. Sooner or later it will catch up. Remember when you tell one lie, you have to remember that lie and tell many more to cover up that one lie. So is it truly a little white lie? It tells us that lying is an abomination to God.

Deceit

Proverbs 12 also talks also about deceit, tricking or being dishonest with other people is nothing but evil. This deceit is also a form of lying, like in the previous Chapter 11 of Proverbs, about the dishonest scales. It is important to tell the Truth! God finds favor in the Truth. I think one reason is that Christ is the Way, The Truth and the Life. (John 14:6)

Chose your friends wisely

Verse 26, tells us to choose our friends wisely. We know this to be the truth. We don’t want them to spread things we told them in confident. Plus too, you want a friend that will stick closer than a brother. Remember this, a true friend will bring you closer to God, not away. We are also associated with what our friends may do or not do.

It also tells us we must choose our friends with caution. This is so true, you become what your friends are or you are associated with what your friends are. That is why it is important to choose them wisely. Think of it this way. Which has more influence, 3-4 people unsaved with 1 saved person? The 3-4 because it is easier to put someone down than to pick them up. Think of it this way, Is it easier to push someone down the fill or pull them up the hill? I think this also tells us if we have a friend that causes us to stumble or henders our walk with God, we must get rid of that relationship.

Good and Evil

Again, this Proverb also talks about good and evil. This time it talks about our thoughts. God knows our thoughts and intentions, the world might not, but God does. We want to have good thoughts, because those are righteous. But bad thoughts are wicked. Let’s say we put a chip in your brain for 24 hours, record all your thoughts. Then we invite your family, friends, coworkers, church, your neighborhood, friends on all your social networks … let’s go on to say everyone you know, met, interacted with etc. This this chip, we can later take them on a big screen and play it for all those people. What do you think those people would think about those thoughts? Well, that won’t happen, but guess what! God can see them, he has the biggest screen TV anyone can have. He watches us and knows all about us.

The Good and The Bad

This Proverb also talks about the good and the bad. I believe again is showing us God likes it when we do good and He blesses us, but when we do wrong, he condemns, or scolds us. The Bible tells us that God disciplines those he loves. Just like we discipline our children because we love them. God corrects those who He loves!

Care for Animals

This Proverb also tells us about a righteous person will care for his animals. It also says if you till, meaning to work your land, you will have bread, meaning you will be able to eat.

The Working and the Lazy

This Proverb also talks about working, if you work you will rule, meaning you will find favor, get what you need. But if you are lazy, you won’t. Being lazy leads to being forced to work, meaning you have to work, you don’t want to work, but you have to.

Anxiety

Chapter 12 also tells us that anxiety is from the heart of man, meaning it can be overcame. That if you don’t overcome it, it will lead to depression. But good words to others help make them feel better. It can lift the depression. It can help encourage or edify someone else. The encouragement you give to someone else can help make their day. That is why its important to watch the words that we say. Because words can make it or break it for someone.

Hunting

Verse 27, (Proverbs 12:27), I think goes well for those of you like to hunt, like the Duck Dynasty men. It talks about hunting, if you are lazy, you won’t get your catch, I believe it what it is saying. You must work at it to get that catch. Maybe that big buck or the great mallard. I believe it also says a lazy man won’t start what he finishes. But a working man will. Take the Duck Dynasty men, they will go hunt, get their catch, they will take it back home, clean it up, cut it up and even eat it up. They go all the way! A lazy man will give up and not see it to its finish.

20th anniversary of the powerful film, “The Passion of the Christ.” In 2004, director Mel Gibson brought to the big screen a visceral and unflinching portrayal of the final hours of Jesus Christ. The film, aptly titled “The Passion of the Christ,” chronicles the agony, betrayal, arrest, torture, and crucifixion of Jesus. Here are some key points to reflect upon:
  • No Bones About It — Jesus is Alive!
The phrase ‘No Bones About It’ is often used as well to state a fact with no doubt meaning Christ arose from the dead His bones were never found! Jesus Christ is surely alive!
  • Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday)
Maundy Thursday we don’t hear about this day too much, especially as a Baptist. Holy Week, that starts on Palm Sunday, week before the resurrection of Christ. Maundy Thursday falls the day before Good Friday and Easter. This is just a short write up on this day. #MaundyThursday #HolyThursday
  • Searching for Christ
Why do we go searching for Christ as if He is lost and someone to be found. We have it wrong it’s the other way around, Christ is seeking us who is lost so we can be found!
  • Spy Wednesday
Spy Wednesday or known as Holy Wednesday or even known as Great and Holy Wednesday. Sometimes known as Good Wednesday. This is the Wednesday that leads up to Easter. Part of Holy Week. #SpyWedneday #HolyWednesday #GoodWednesday
