About Steve Patterson

Church Membership

Mr. Steve, Agency D3 Youth Cadet Supervisor, Piedmont Baptist Church - Steve Patterson
Mr. Steve, Agency D3 Youth Cadet Supervisor, Piedmont Baptist Church, VBS – 2014

I grew up going to Alice Bell Baptist Church, as a child and teenager. While I was a teenager, I helped with the sound system, children’s church and served as an usher.

I attended Piedmont Baptist Church, for seven years, where I helped on the van ministry, the youth group and as an usher. Since I’m a graphic designer, I also designed flyers for events and stuff. I also helped fill in where ever needed. Serving with the youth has allowed me to be able to go on youth trips! Some of these youth trips include: Difference Makers Camp, Xtreme Winter, Winter Jam, Strength to Stand, Corn Maze, Hikes, Creeper Trail, Ice Skating, Movies and more. Plus, I helped with Grow Ministry (outreach) when I could as well.

Today, my wife and I are members of True Life Church in Jefferson City, TN.

Education & Training

I have been on the Walk to Emmaus (Table of Stephen) in 1998 from The Great Smoky Mountain Emmaus Community.

I have an Associates of Applied Science degree in Communication Graphics Technology (CGT aka graphic design) in 2000 from Pellissippi State Technical Community College. Plus, I use my graphic design skills for this blog ministry and also to help do flyers for the church. Even some of my graphic design skills are used for other ministries too.

Currently, I am studying theology at Andersonville Theological Seminary to get my Bachelor of Theology (Th.B.). This Th.B. degree is a work at your own pace. So far it has been very slow for me.

On September 2016, The Adrian Rogers Pastor Training Institute on What Every Pastor Ought to Know. I did this with a group of local pastors, including my pastor Bob Neal. The Jefferson County Baptist Association put this training on. This training covered what every pastor out to know about maturity, ministry and management. It was a six week training for us, meeting on Mondays.

Helping Other Ministries

I have been able to help with setup and other aspects of a buddy who got to preach at a nursing home, the Samaritan House, Work Release Jail and even hand out gospel tracts at events and the local college. Since I am a graphic designer, I also, help a few ministries out with some graphic design too.

Scouting

I am an Eagle Scout. An Eagle scout is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. I attained my rank of Eagle in 1994. I’m a life time member of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). Prior to me attaining my rank of Eagle, I earned my God and Country award in the Boy Scouts of America. Not to mention, one of the positions I held in my troop was Chaplain’s Aid and also Scribe, mostly both of them at the same time. A Chaplain’s Aid acts as the Chaplain for the troop. He would lead the troop in prayers and even Bible studies. Not to mention, if you were camping on Sunday, he would lead a Vesper Service, meaning a type of church service in the woods.

Christian Camp

Even as a teenager, I was able to work at a Christian camp, Camp Ba-Yo-Ca working as a camp counselor. For one month I had the youngest group of boys in a cabin (each week was a new group of boys). I got to teach a few of the classes there too.

One of the years while at Piedmont, I got to go on a week camping trip with the youth. It was called Difference Makers. We did some mission work and even singing and worship. It was at Carson Springs.

Blogging Ministry

One of the biggest things I am doing right now, is doing a blog ministry. This one that you are reading my about me page on, Courageous Christian Father.

The Resolution

In February of 2012, I took the Resolution (pledge from the movie Courageous). I’d have to say it wasn’t easy and I still struggle with these.

Re-dedication

In 2012, I publicly went before my church, Piedmont Baptist, and announced a re-dedication to Christ.

Christian Music

I love Christian music. It is all I listen to. I mostly tune into Air1 but also do listen to K-Love at times too. Air 1 is  what it stays on in my car. In my home, my computer or iPhone has nothing but Christian music on it. I challenge you to listen to nothing but Christian music for one month and see what it does. After that see if you can’t listen to it for about another 30 days. If I’m using an app, it’s WayFM.

I believe only listening to Christian Music has helped my walk greatly. The saying be careful little ear what you hear is true. I don’t want the influence of worldly music affecting my walk and bringing me away from God.

Hobbies & Other Stuff

Some of my other hobbies include walking, hiking, camping, swimming, bowling, photography, and sewing. I plan to make my first quilt! My wife and I have two cats, she is a calico, named Lilly Bug and Joel the Brave who is a black cat. Both of our cats use to blog at 2 Cats and a Blog.

Jesus is the ONLY Way

I believe in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and that He died for my sins so I can have everlasting life. Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven. I believe the Holy Bible is God-Breathed, true Word of God without error.

Gospel Tracts

I enjoy giving out Gospel of John’s and Gospel Tracts.

  1. I wanted to say thanks for sharing I am Second with your audience. I work with the organization as a writer and small groups coach. I wanted to let you know that I have a book coming out December 9 called Live Second: 365 Ways to Make Jesus First. The book contains 365 daily readings and prayers meant to inspire people to consider what life might look like if Jesus were First. I am organizing a Week-of-Second Blogging Campaign for bloggers like yourself who are fans of I am Second.

    Week-of-Second Blogging Campaign:

    1. Bloggers get a free e-version of Live Second: 365 Ways to Make Jesus First

(there is no obligation past this point to either give a positive review or to do the campaign)

    2. You select 4 readings within Session 2 of the book to write about

    3. During Launch Week, December 9-15, you write four (4) blog entries telling the story of your spiritual journey as you read and interact with the Live Second book and the four readings you choose.

    4. Send me a link to your blog and after launch week, I'll write up a list of everyone who took part in the campaign and share that list with the I am Second community which involves about .5 million social media followers (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, I would love to send you a copy of the book. Just email back at [email protected]

    Thanks!

    Doug Bender

  2. https://www.courageouschristianfather.com/category/i-am-second/live-second-2/ is the blog post pertaining to this book release. (also future book reviews as I go through the book). I actually bought the hard copy book the other day. I wasn’t able to keep up with the eversion pdf you sent me. I appreciate and have enjoyed the first bit of the book I got to. I am looking forward to doing this as a devotion with my daughter. She wants to take turn I would read one day and she read it the next day. Thanks Doug!

  3. Hey Steve,

I stumbled on you blog by doing searches related to fatherhood, Christianity or even abortion.

My name is Michel Sauret. I’m the winner of the International Book Awards and the Army Journalist of the Year Award, plus a finalist in two other major indie author competitions.

Recently I released CHILD, HOLD ME which is my story about the pain and faithful struggle of facing the loss of a child in the womb. This is a story of faith, fatherhood and redemption. It is emotional and compelling and I believe that young men and women can both benefit from reading it, especially in a time when abortion has reached pandemic proportions.

I would love to partner with you in sharing this story with a wider audience. I’d be honored to help promote your own blog and writing in return! There is nothing more important than promoting Christ and strong fatherhood in the times we live in now.

I would love to hear back your thoughts!

You can find my memoir here:

My personal author website is wee.msauret.com

    Thank you and God bless,

    Michel

  4. Steve, I love your Fourth of July poem. Would it be ok if I put it in our church newsletter? Thanks!

  5. I am so glad you run this blog. The world needs more men like you, men who are involved in the church and willing to stand up for what’s right and adhere to biblical principles even when they go against the grain of our modern culture. I think it’s great that you are involved in so many Ministries and that you are doing the True Love Waits. Absolutely wonderful. I’d be curious to know what prison ministry is like. I’ve considered bringing my scrapbooking materials or art therapy materials just to see if it’s something that they would want to use. I know that most prisons already have a library.

  6. Brother Steve,

I stumbled on your blog about Adrian Rogers’ What Every Pastor Ought to Know while I was searching for the workbook for it. Would you know of any other way to get a hold of that workbook? I can’t seem to find it online. Thank you, God bless!

  7. i have purchased the kings witness bracelets and would like to get another pack of 60 but can not find them or how to order them. i am down to my last 2 and i hate to be without them. such a good way for me to witness to total strangers when they ask about the symbols.
