National Candy Corn Day – You will find this yellow, orange and white candy each year around fall, Halloween time. Some people like them and other people don’t. Odd enough it has it’s own holiday too.

Normally candy corn is usually made of Sugar, corn syrup, carnauba wax, artificial coloring and binders. However, you will find some made with honey instead of sugar. I actually prefer the ones made with real honey instead. There is also a chocolate version too. The chocolate candy corn is usually known as Indian Corn. Not to mention, a newer version is now out in the shape of a pumpkin.

Candy corn was created in the 1880s by George Renninger of the Philadelphia, PA-based Wunderle Candy Company. By 1920, candy corn became popular. This treat is very popular in the United States and Canada. This treat was originally made by hand. Now it’s made by machines.

You will find most of the candy corn is a Tri-Color scheme of yellow, orange and white. However, the Indian Corn is still has a similar tri-color scheme, however it uses brown instead of yellow. Each pieces resembles a real kernel corn. Now they make bright pastel color candy corn during Easter, Spring time.

Candy Corn Day is held annually October 30. The day before Halloween. How this day was started is unclear. Like most other unusual holidays, it must have started by people who enjoy candy corn or by a company as a way to market their product. Nonetheless, Candy Corn Day is a day for those who enjoy candy corn.

Do you like candy corn?
