California to Ban Bible Sales

California to Ban Bible Sales – It’s been going around that the state of California is planning to ban the sale of Bibles. Is this true? What does this mean for California residents? Rest of the United States?

California to Ban Bible Sales

So I went to dig into this to find out if this was true or not. I have heard some pastors and other people share about California has a proposal to ban the sale of Bibles and other books that have Bible references in them. Of course, most people believe what they read without digging deeper and that is why I wanted to look into this and share it with my readers.

It stated Assembly Bill 2943, a proposed law currently before state legislators to ban the sales of Bibles in the State of California. This bill would be part of a gay conversion therapy bill. It sure makes it look real! But is it real? is the government trying to bring more censorship and freedom from religion?

California to Ban Bible Sales

This is part of what the text said.

In April 2018, the right-wing One America News Network (OAN) interviewed California State Assembly member Travis Allen, who is running for governor as a Republican, about Assembly Bill 2943, a proposed law currently before state legislators.

The bill relates to “gay conversion therapy,” but according to Allen and “Tipping Point” host Liz Wheeler, it would effectively ban the sale of Christian books, including the Bible.

Another Article

The misleading story was published as an article on April 20, 2018 by YourNewsWire under the headline “California Gov. Jerry Brown To Ban Sales Of The Bible” (archived here) which opened:

Sales of the Holy Bible and Biblical based teaching is set to be banned in California in the near future thanks to Governor Jerry Brown and the state assembly who have combined to force a bill through the state assembly that claims the Bible promotes hate speech against gays, lesbians and transgender people.

Assembly Bill 2943 will threaten the freedom of religion and First Amendment rights of Christians in California. Using the state’s “consumer fraud statute” to restrict religious freedom and free speech, the bill seeks to ban sales of the Bible because it includes verses that fall outside what Gov. Brown considers “acceptable teaching” on sexuality issues.

The controversial bill, which will also ban any form of speech or written material that promotes traditional Christian views on marriage and sexuality, has already made its way through the California state assembly after it was approved on the floor Thursday. The bill now goes to the state Senate for a vote.

False!

Many sources are sharing and stating this is false! This has just stared to circulate this month, April of 2018.

What is Assembly Bill 2943

AB 2943, as amended, Low. Unlawful business practices: sexual orientation change efforts.
Existing law, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, makes unlawful certain unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices undertaken by any person in a transaction intended to result result, or which results results, in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer. Existing law authorizes any consumer who suffers damages as a result of these unlawful practices to bring an action against that person to recover damages, among other things.
Existing law prohibits mental health providers, as defined, from performing sexual orientation change efforts, as specified, with a patient under 18 years of age. Existing law requires a violation of this provision to be considered unprofessional conduct and subjects the provider to discipline by the provider’s licensing entity.
This bill would include, as an unlawful practice prohibited under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual. The bill would also declare the intent of the Legislature in this regard.

This proves the enemy is still at work. The devil is the father of lies and do whatever to make us think things are true. So no the Bible is not being banned in the State of California!
