Believer vs Follower

Believer vs follower and there is a difference. You can believe in God but not follow Him. The Bible tells us even the demons believe. Believe is knowing. #BGBG2

A follower will do what is been told to do. They don’t just believe, they follow. Yes, actions or works don’t save us. Following is acting on the belief. However, if we follow Christ we will have works. Proof is in the pudding you can say.

We will do what our leader does. We follow Him and Believe in Him. We will go where He goes. We are actively interested in what He does or has done. Kind of like Follow the Leader game we played as a child.

You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

James 2:19

After all, the demons believe. They know who He is. But they do not follow Him.

If you are just a believer, than you are not following. You just know of Him. It could show that you are religious and no relationship. If you just believe, I encourage you to follow Him. Like the old song, I have decided to Follow Jesus, No turning back. No turning back.

Check out what the Oxford Dictionary says about these two words …

Follower:

  1. An adherent or devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity.
  2. A person who moves or travels behind someone or something.
  3. A person who takes an active interest in a particular activity.

They didn’t hesitate in their decision. They didn’t take anything with them. They didn’t run back home to bid farewell to those they loved. They simply said yes to His call. And for the next three years, they did everything with Jesus.

What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus? YouVersion Devotion
They didn’t hesitate in their decision. They didn’t take anything with them. They didn’t run back home to bid farewell to those they loved. They simply said yes to His call. And for the next three years, they did everything with Jesus.

Believer:

  1. An adherent of a particular religion; someone with religious faith.
  2. A person who believes that a specified thing is effective, proper, or desirable.
  3. A person who believes in the truth or existence of something.

Adherent means someone who supports a particular party, person, or set of ideas.

Are you just a believer or are you a follower?

We must be followers, not just a believer. We must be active in His Word and following after Him. Do the things He would do. Say the things He would do. Pretty much mimic Him.

Note the follower takes an active interest and moves and travels based on the one they follow. They do more than just believe. Remember, the demons believe!

Did you know that in the Bible Christians were called Followers of the Way. See Acts 9:2

Jesus even told the disciples, Follow Me! That is a command!
