A Charlie Brown Christmas Play without Bible Verses

A Charlie Brown Christmas we are familiar with this Christmas Movie. We all know that Linus shares the gospel in this show too. But one school in Paintville, Kentucky in the Johnson County School system is cutting any Bible verses from the play, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at W.R. Castle Elementary.

Linus shares What Christmas Is All About in A Charlie Brown Christmas

Removing the Bible Verses from A Charlie Brown Christmas

The main part they are cutting is where Linus shares the Christmas story as found in the Gospel of Luke to share what Christmas Really Means to Charlie Brown.  How can you have this play without Linus sharing the gospel? You can’t. It won’t be the same without it. (Picture shown above is from the cartoon, but in the play this is the scene they are taking out).

This in my opinion those Bible Verses are the focal point of what Christmas really is and what the whole show A Charlie Brown Christmas is about. It is said and this comes at the 50th Anniversary of this great show that truly shares the true meaning of Christmas.

Thomas Salyer told the Herald-Leader Tuesday that Christmas programs across the district were being reviewed for possible modifications of religious references. That news had led people to protest outside school district offices for a second day Tuesday.1

This is a copy of what the school got fro the superintendent.

“As superintendent of Johnson County Schools, I recognize the significance of Christmas and the traditions and beliefs associated with this holiday. Over the past few days, there have been several rumors indicating that there would be no Christmas plays this year at our elementary schools. I want to clarify that all programs will go on as scheduled. In accordance with federal laws, our programs will follow appropriate regulations. The U.S. Supreme Court and the 6th Circuit are very clear that public school staff may not endorse any religion when acting in their official capacities and during school activities. However, our district is fully committed to promote the spirit of giving and concern for our fellow citizens that help define the Christmas holiday. With core values such as service, integrity, leadership, and commitment, our staff and students will continue to proudly represent our district as recently demonstrated by our many student successes.”

There were many people that came to protect the removal of the Bible references.

My thing is, if they knew this play had Bible verses in it, then they should not have picked it. The other thing, it still says “Christmas”. If they don’t want the Bible verses then why still call it a Christmas Play? I believe if I was a parent, I would pull my child from the play if they were in it and I would not support this play with the Bible verses taken out of it.

You Cannot Remove Christ from Christmas

No matter what we do we cannot remove “Christ” from Christmas. I’m glad that God is the omnipresent God. Is everywhere in with us His son Jesus even dwelt among us Emanuel. No matter how the government, schools, people, etc. try their best to remove God, Jesus or the Bible. They can never remove him because of His omnipresent.

We need to pray for our Nation and World. Just remember no matter how much they try to take God away and Christ away they can’t. Judgement Day is coming and every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. (See Philippians 2:10-11) Plus it shares this several other times too. Remember Vengeance is Mine sayith the Lord.

Update: I heard reports that parents joined together and recited the lines that got deleted out loud. You can’t stop God! You can’t stop Christmas either as the Grinch found out too. Way to go patents.
