23 Blast – Official Trailer

23 Blast – Synopsis

When a high school football star is suddenly stricken with irreversible, total blindness, he must decide whether to live a safe, protected life or to summon the courage through playing football to step back into the world.

23 Blast is based on the amazing, true story of Travis Freeman. A typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky, Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve; he becomes blind overnight.

Under the influence of parents who love him, a physical therapist who challenges him, a coach who inspires him, and a best friend who he cannot bear to leave behind, Travis shows us what true bravery is by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs. We follow Travis and Jerry Baker, his closest friend, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. Jerry’s attraction to the dark side of teenage temptations threatens to pull the friends apart. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.

Depicting a story of hope triumphing over despair, of courage and faith overcoming fear and of victory prevailing over adversity, 23 Blast is designed to encourage and uplift audiences.

23 Blast – Review

23 Blast is about a true story about Travis Freeman, a boy who becomes blind due to an unknown infection. Find out how his story unfolds and his triumph how to get back to a normal life, a life being blind.

Look around, imagine what you see now is what you see for the rest of your life. What if you woke up and you couldn’t see anymore? Would you blame God? Would you go on with life with hatred? Would you have the faith to move on and trust God has a purpose for this? We too often use other misfortune of others as an excuse at why we don’t do something, but those with the misfortune are often the ones rising above and persevering through the tough times.

23 Blast is a very good movie in my opinion, my daughter, Amber said this was better than the other football faith movies she has seen. I asked her better than When the Game Stands Tall? She said yea that one too dad, but the other one. I said what Facing the Giants? She said yes, she said she liked this one the best over the both of them. I remember as a very young child, before Amber was in school she wanted to be a quarterback. I offered her encouragement that she could do it. Just like the coach did for Freeman. We should help and offer encouragement to everyone.

This movie can make a great analogy. Sin can be like an infection that can cause us to be blind. Blind to what is going on around us, blind to our short comings, but with faith in Jesus Christ, he can allow us to see. See the sin for what it is to Him. Freeman battled this blindness, a physical blindness that caused him to be unable to see. According to Freeman being blind was scary. He said imaging you close your eyes and you cannot open it. Blindness is an eternal darkness. Yes, Christ is our light.

The Corbin Redhounds High School football coach, had great faith the Freeman could play football. Instead of a receiver, he now will be a center and hand off the ball to the quarterback. If you are blind and have a passion for football such as Freeman, do you think you could do it or would you soak in your disability and allow it to disable you, or would you conquer your fear and not allow it to overcome you. Find out if Freeman can overcome his blindness and play football again. Yet alone, do you think he could catch the football, maybe even catch it in a 23 Blast, a straight line run. Would there be any obstacles to overcome or any thing that will come and knock Freeman down? Find out in 23 Blast.

I enjoyed the whole movie, the story line, the production and quality of the movie was good too. If this was a low budget film, you could not tell it, it seems like a high quality movie. I am not familiar about their budget for this movie. I also enjoyed hearing the Christian Music throughout the movie. Music was from TobyMac, Crowder, and Shawn McDonalds, plus I am sure more.

Freeman gives us something to think about. Can we overcome like he did? Whom shall we fear, Freeman has said. Freeman shows great faith to overcome. At the end of the movie the show this Bible verse, 2 Corinthians 5:7. For we live by faith, not sight.

One draw back that I didn’t like about the movie there is smoking of cigars and even drinking beer scenes. But other that those two things, the movie was good. I thought I would let you all know there is smoking and some drinking in this movie.

23 Blast is about 98 minutes long. It is rated PG-13.

Freeman earned a Ph.D. in Theology in 2012 and is currently an instructor of religion at the University of the Cumberlands in nearby Williamsburg, KY.
