Virtuous Movie Review and Trailer

SYNOPSIS

When Simone Burner (Brandy Allison) is accused of murdering the man who assaulted her, she seeks out the help of attorney Jack Evans (Erik Estrada “CHiPS”) to prove her innocence. As her trial progresses, the prosecution brings to light the truth about Simone’s past. A past that she had long hoped to escape.

From the producer of Finding Faith, “Virtuous” is a film created to inspire and ignite women to live out the principles of Proverbs 31, instilling solid convictions of faith, wisdom, and integrity.

Boasting a female-led cast that includes Angelita Nelson (Courageous), Erin Bethea (Fireproof), Vanessa Ore (My Name is Paul) and American hero, Jessica Lynch, this film weaves together stories of powerful women from the battlefields of Afghanistan, to an American news studio, to a home for troubled girls, and the pulpit of a church, all while revealing the truth of God’s transformative love and grace.

My Virtuous Review

This movie is based on the Virtuous Woman, which is found in Proverbs 31 of the Bible. These came from King Lemuel, who was taught this from his mother. See below Proverbs 31. This movie does some some violence due to showing some war scenes and police investigation scenes. I believe this movie is great for older youth, maybe 12 and above or older. Even the Dove Foundation says it is approved for 12 years and older.

This video does portray a shooting in it and mentions a guy who was attempting a rape. The movie kind of has a weird start to it. I did get lost watching it. But, once you got to the middle of the movie it got better, so stick around. From the middle of the movie on I thought was the best parts. I even had tears come down my eyes. So this movie is a bit of an emotional movie.

back & forth

This movie does go back and forth some from the past while these soldiers were a PoW (Prisoner of War) and to the future state.

Plus, you wonder how all the other characters relate and how they are in the movie, but later on you that will be revealed to you. I guess the first part didn’t make sense to me because of that.

This movie talked a lot about how women, you are a daughter of the Most High King, a King greater than false love or any kind of doubt. This king is even greater than the Taliban.

familiar starts

I got to see familiar stars in this movie like those from the movies Courageous and Fireproof. Plus, Erik Estrada, most of us if you are around my age or older, know him from the T.V. show CHiP’s (California Highway Patrol).

This movie points out that Failure is an event; it’s not the person.

In a sense I thought this might be a movie like Courageous but for women. Then I saw a graphic and the press release share this statement. ‘What Courageous was for men; Virtuous is for women”.

I did enjoy this movie and I recommend this movie too.

My daughter’s thoughts

She liked the military stuff in it. She said she liked how it had a few different story lines but they all seemed to draw down to one. That is all she wanted to tell me. My daughter is 17 years old.

Proverbs 31:10-31

10 Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

More in the Bible

Not only is this movie about Proverbs 31. But it can relate to the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32. This movie can talk about being a slave to sin like in John 8:31-36. Plus more Bible facts about this movie. Click Here Download the Discussion Guide.

You can also check out the 31 Day Proverbs Challenge. There are 31 Chapters in Proverbs, enough to read one chapter per day for 31 days. Read my take of Proverbs Chapter 31.

More on this movie

The Dove Foundation says this movie powerfully shows that perseverance and faith pays off. Even Governor Mike Huckabee said, “Virtuous is a great film about dealing with adversity and overcoming it.”

This movie is presented by JC Films. Virtuous is their 4th family friendly and faith-based movie they have done.

This film is also considered to have a multi-plot focused on empowering women to live righteously. This movie also introduces the Potter’s House for Women, a division of Rock Springs Church. The film used a total of 368 volunteers and was shot over a period of 34 consecutive days.
