The Holy Spirit is like an Alarm System

This came to me as I was driving home from work. I have a commute of around an hour, so sometimes in that hour drive time I have things come to my head that will make good blog post and this is one of them. I would like to use an analogy of how the Holy Spirit is like an Alarm System to us.

Alarm Panel - Sin in Progress
Alarm Panel – Sin in Progress

The basic alarm system:

An alarm system can indicate when someone has broken into your property. It can also alert to fire or even medical situations. It shows us trouble zones or trouble areas. Just like these alarm systems you have for your home, vehicle or other property the same applies to us. We have a an alarm system that works within us like that. That alarm is the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is the alarm system:

The Holy Spirit is the Alarm System that we have as Christians. God sent us the Holy Spirit as our guide. The Holy Spirit can help guide us and allow us to know when we are doing wrong. You ever get that feeling that you shouldn’t be doing that? Well that is the Holy Spirit sending you an alarm signal that you shouldn’t be doing that.

Signals starting to come in:

Maybe after you committed a sin, you feel that guilt and wished you never did it. Well there is another alarm signal coming in from the Holy Spirit guiding you to correct you, so that you will not want to do that again. It can signal to you, that you do not need to be doing that to stop doing it, give you the directions to know if you should or shouldn’t do that or if you have to repent from that sin.

The Alarm is Sounding:

When you hear the alarm blaring from the Holy Spirit you better listen to that! The Holy Spirit is trying to guide you in the direction you should go. The Devil will make us think we are doing right when we aren’t. That is when the alarm system goes off and blares to us. Remember at times are alarm may blare loudly and other times it may sound soft and quiet. We just have to know how to listen and be open to the signals that come in. The Holy Spirit will guide us in the way we need to go. That sound is to alert us to possible sin in progress or even sin in progress. At times maybe Sin already pass. Good thing is we can ask for forgiveness from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Troubleshooting the sounding alarm:

We are always given a way out. We need to choose to listen to the Holy Spirit. If it tells us not to do something then we might ought to listen to what it is telling us to do. If it tells us to STOP! Well then STOP! We must stay in the Word, Prayer, Worship, Fellowship and more so we are able to identify those signals; a form of troubleshoot those signals, as our technician per-say; and then you can silence this alarm by the Holy Spirit. Take heed, you must listen or it will continue to sound. It may silence for awhile, but the sound will come back. Repent and turn away from your sin.

Don’t take my word:

Don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself. Check out these Bible Verses. There are plenty more as well. These are just a few. It is always good to check out the Bible for yourself! Stay in the Word and Study!

John 14:15-17

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

John 16:7-15

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

  1. amen! So many people believe that we should ignore all feelings of guilt. They say that we are listening to the devil if we are convicted. Satan does assault us by trying to keep us from feeling God’s presence because we can’t forgive ourselves and accept His healing. If we have truly repented of a sin, then lingering guilt is Satan trying to steal our joy. But the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin. Whenever we feel guilt the first thing that we should ask ourselves is, “Do I need to repent of this sin? Is it still a problem area for me? Have I truly let go of the sin or do I still have a sense of pleasure at the memory of this sin and am I sad at having to give it up?” If we can answer yes then we do not see the sin as God sees it. If a transgression is still secretly cherished then repentance is not complete. Most likely the feelings of guilt are from the Holy Spirit who is convicting our consciences until we see the sin for what it truly is- a destructive cancer that ends in death.

  2. Nice Ty very true thanks for Sharing its sane for me too. Our flesh is weak and wants to give in. We cannot allow that to happen. It is hard but we need to listen to that signal the Holy Spirit is telling us.
